REPUBLICAN PARTY CHAIRMAN MICHAEL STEELE
On whether Republicans are scared of the Black community:
You’re absolutely right. I mean I’ve been in the room, and they’ve been scared of me. I’m like, “I’m on your side!”…You saw in [Chris] Christie, and you saw in [Bob] McDonnell a door open, because they went in and engaged. [Bob] McDonnell was very deliberate about spending. Sheila Johnson was on his team…That was a big deal. That’s because he engaged her, and she helped navigate him through that relationship.

On what issues Republicans can effectively reach black voters:
Education and the economy, education and jobs, education and small business.

On telling other Republicans whether to be a guest on “Washington Watch with Roland Martin”: “This is the place to be. If you want to talk to the Black community, this is one of the stops you[‘ve] got to make.”

DR. MICHAEL ERIC DYSON On whether President Obama needs to address the issue of race: “If the President were a white woman, I would expect the President to address race. If the President is a black man, I can’t exempt the President who happens to be a black man because of sensitivities that he may have, or others around him, from speaking out about race. I know that it’s tough, but it’s tough on the economy, it’s tough on dealing with cap and trade, it’s tough with giving the notorious AIG a break and seeing what they are doing with their executives; so it’s tough, but that’s the job.”
