Don Imus…what’s next?

It’s interesting to watch the friends of Don Imus so torn up by this. I thought David Gregory was going to break down for a minute there.
And surely the journalists and politicians who defended him yesterday have to be saying, “Wow, we are completely out of touch if we didn’t see this coming.”
They enjoyed being a part of the frat house.
This isn’t gloating. It’s just the reality that the guy has been toxic for years, and they chose to still party with the wild man.
Now the pressure falls on CBS. They won’t be able to stand up to the pressure. Already, CBS Corp. director Bruce Gordon has announced that it’s time for him to go.
This will be tough for CBS because their stock has taken a HUGE hit since Howard Stern bolted for Sirius. They depend on him reportedly for 25% of their revenue.Â
ALL of the pressure is now going to flow their direction. It will be too much. Expect Imus to give a final sign off on Friday.
And for you record companies and rappers, run for cover. You are next. Those first in line? The publicly traded companies.
If I’m BET or any other company that plays the videos, I would get in front of this train – NOW – and announce that I’m banning the sexist videos. A smart radio GM at an urban station would announce today that ANY song that references women with the language Imus used is banned immediately.
And when they are doing cleaning up rap music, let’s see folks target the broader issue of sexism.
