Roland S. Martin, a nationally syndicated columnist and Chicago-based radio host, will join CNN, it was announced today by Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S.  Martin will serve as a contributor across several programs effective immediately, and, in the coming months, the network will develop various other programming concepts around him.

“As a multifaceted journalist steeped in the traditions of storytelling and truth-seeking, Roland offers a powerful voice on subjects ranging from politics to religion to race to numerous other social issues,” Klein said. “We’re very pleased to have him contribute to a wide range of CNN stories.”

“CNN has made a sincere commitment to giving its audience a breadth of important stories not typically found in mainstream media,” Martin said. “I am pleased to be a part of that effort and to do my part to see they rise to that challenge.”

A nationally syndicated columnist with Creators Syndicate, Martin most recently served as executive editor of the Chicago Defender, the nation’s largest black daily newspaper.  He is a commentator for TV One Cable Network and hosts The Roland S. Martin Show on WVON/1690AM in Chicago each weekday.  He is the author of Listening to the Spirit Within: 50 Perspectives on Faith and Speak, Brother! A Black Man’s View of America.

He is the former founding news editor for Savoy magazine and the former founding editor of BlackAmericaWeb.com, owned by nationally syndicated radio host Tom Joyner and Radio One.

Martin previously served as owner/publisher of Dallas-Fort Worth Heritage, a Christian monthly newspaper and worked as managing editor of the Houston Defender and the Dallas Weekly.  He also has worked for KRLD/1080AM, KKDA-AM in Dallas, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and the Austin American-Statesman.

During his journalism career, Martin has won more than 20 awards, including a regional Edward R. Murrow award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association; several first place awards from the Dallas-Fort Worth Association of Black Communicators; two citations from the National Associated Press Managing Editors Conference; the top sports reporting award in 1997 from the National Association of Black Journalists; and honors from the Houston Press Club.

How can a race of people let someone else define who they are? African American! What part of Africa are you from? Black you mean like every color in the spectrum! Afro American you mean a hairstyle! Sounds silly ha! In our right state of mind we are (MOORS); we have been on these shores for thousands of years, before Columbus got here. As (MOORS) we ruled navigation, so we knew how to ride the tides coming to the Americas. Look at those Olmec Statues in South America and tell yourself and the world that they aren`t (MOORS). Nationality is the method to our madness ,those names mentioned above aren`t a nationality! Google Noble Drew Ai 1928 Pan American Conference Havana ,Cuba. Ben York a (MOOR) from Mali was with Lewis and Clark on their expedition without Ben York whom was a linguist they wouldn`t have survived! Ben York was able to comunitcate with all the Native American Tribes. All of the American Indian ,Native American his-story is about the (MOORS) us! Science once said hydrogen atom was the lightest element. What about quarks, zeles, biaps? We need new information for a new day and time. The tsunami proves, that landmass can be moved! We were here as well as there! Everthing is not a black and white thing it`s (MOOR) to us than that! How come Roland Martin, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, NAACP, SCLC, Urban League aren`t talking about nationality? Every race of people on the planet has a nationality ,but so called Black People, African Americans!

I think it was you talking yesterday about the “conscience bill.” (If I am confused- and that’s a pretty common state for me these days, pass it along.) Here is my take. The pharmacist’s job is to fill the prescription, to (for me) note possible interactions with other drugs, side-effects I might need to be aware of. He is not the doctor and he does not prescribe the medicine. To not provide what the doctor has ordered for his patient could be life-threatening, even lethal. As for the doctor, I choose doctors that will work with me. I have special problems and have trouble with most medicines. I am lucky. A lot of people don’t have a choice- veterans use army doctors, some workers use company doctors, etc. To refuse to treat a patient because of religious beliefs would not be any different than a postman refusing to deliver mail to a couple who are living together and not married, or a fireman refusing to rescue someone from a burning building because he/she is homosexual. They have a job to do. If they can’t do it because of their conscience, then they need to find different work.

I think he asked a question that was loaded it should have been asked to both, and from the look on his face he clearly did not like the answer she gave,I see it is okay for him to disagree with her but dare her disagree with his view, true she did not get the crown or the money, but she still has her faith and her pride and money can not buy that If one does not stand for something one will fall for anything MELVA IN BONNER SPRINGS KANSAS and who know she was there for such a time as this ESTHER
