(August 7, 2007) New York, NY—Award-winning journalist and CNN contributor, Roland S. Martin, will launch his new blog on essence.com today with the notorious question, “Is Obama Black Enough?” Martin will post to the site, the online home of ESSENCE, the preeminent lifestyle magazine for African-American women, twice daily and will cover a myriad of issues including politics, race, religion, relationships, parenting, and more.

“I look forward to working with ESSENCE on expanding its presence on the Internet and addressing a variety of topics,” says Roland S. Martin. “Many of these issues may be considered taboo, sensitive or controversial, but the interactive dialogue it will generate, particularly among African-American women will be very interesting.”

Martin will also start contributing to the magazine bi-monthly, beginning with the December issue.

“Roland is one of the country’s most respected journalists,” says Angela Burt-Murray, editor in chief, ESSENCE. “His perspective on the issues that are of importance to the ESSENCE audience will help broaden the scope of essence.com and is sure to drive more of our readers to the site.”

Essence.com has become the online destination for millions of African-American women in recent months. The site received 10,000,000 page views in July and has garnered national media attention as a result of its recent breaking news stories on celebrities like Mel B., Robin Givens and more!

In addition to his role as a CNN contributor, Mr. martin is a nationally syndicated columnist with Creators Syndicate; a commentator for TV One Cable Network; and host of “The Roland S. Martin Show” on WVON-AM/1690 in Chicago. He can be heard daily from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. In September, he will release his second book, “Listening to the Spirit Within: 50 Perspectives on Faith.”

Are there any WHITE magazines out there? Black people need their own magazines?

And the African-American community wonders why they still haven’t integrated!!

  • http://??? al

You mentioned in a cnn.com piece that NBC was better off because why??? they promoted black journalists to prominent positions? OK, I’ll give you that. What in the world is going on then when one of the Rutgers players is suing Imus…and waiting until now? Im sure you will spint this to her favor but it is just another example of someone looking for the easy buck and trying to get the limelight to shine on her. Its over…cant we be done with it? Why arent the other girls suing? When is this madness going to stop? And dont get me started about the lawyer who took this case…isnt the judicial system bogged down enough already?

Hey! Why shouldn’t blacks have their own magazine?? We can have our own tv stations, own radio shows, our own language, our own whatever we want!

Why? Because we were brought here, we didn’t want to come here! We deserve it!

Quit your racist comments and just learn to deal with it.
