Why didn’t Hannity blast Jack Kemp about his praise for Farrakhan?

03/22/2008 1:21 pm 71 comments

Any time Sean Hannity discusses Sen. Barack Obama, he always brings up the praise of Rev. Jeremiah Wright for Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan.

Any time a fire-breathing person who is white comes on, he lets them rip Obama, Wright and Farrakhan. Any time he gets a black critic of Obama, he lets them rip on him, Wright and Farrakhan. And any time he has a supporter of Obama, he rips into them on Wright and Farrakhan, trying to make them denounce both.

So why last night DIDN’T Hannity rip into his buddy, former Republican Congressman Jack Kemp and ardent Sen. John McCain supporter, for his words of praise for the Nation of Islam and Farrakhan?

Oh, you guys didn’t know about that, right?

Well, way back in 1996, Kemp was the vice presidential running mate of Kansas Sen. Bob Dole.

Kemp said that he wanted to meet with Farrakhan; praised their focus on economic empowerment, family values and the pull-yourselves-up-by-the-bootstrap-message – which is right in line with the GOP talking points; and even said he wanted to speak at the Million Man March.

Boy, was he torn apart by Jewish critics, and many in his own party.

Kemp summarily criticized Farrakhan’s comments about Jews and whites, but he didn’t take his words back.

So again, WHY didn’t Hannity ask Kemp about these comments? Is it because he didn’t want his mostly white and mostly Republican audience to know that one of their own highly respected leaders has praised Farrakhan?

The issue here isn’t about defending Obama, Wright or Farrakhan. It’s about the SELECTIVE memory of Hannity, who is nothing but a foaming-at-the-mouth terrier who can’t even present the facts straight.

So, Sean, WHY won’t you denounce, condemn and repudiate your buddy Jack Kemp for HIS comments about Farrakhan?

I know Hannity hates the fact that guys like me know how to read and we have a memory. So as long as he keeps going with his distorted reality, we’ll be sure to remind him of the truth.

I am from The Bahamas and i watch you on CNN everyday. Roland Martin Your “AWESOME” there’s no other way to say it, just “AWESOME”.

Why don’t you do a story on Rev. Jeremiah wright and his church? he can’t be all bad. There is good in all of us and i certainly understand where he’s coming from. Maybe it’s time America see the whole story.

    Your “AWESOME”

  • Portia A Morris

Pitch it to CNN lets see how brave they are.

  • Dan

It is obvious Fox News is racist. A large network, inciting a race war.

  • Renee

    Roland,

I sadden, distrubed, and sickened by how Rev. Wright has been treated by the media and American. This is someone who was in the military, a scholar, a great man with a wonderful mind who has been reduced to someone who is vile and unworthly of American citizenship. This is not the man I know. I use to listen to Rev. Wright every morning while driving to work. I worked at a job where there were very few Blacks in leaderhship and if you were in leadership, which I was, it was assumed it was because of your color and you were treated unfairly. Rev Wright helped me understand that I am as good as any one else and that I had an obligation to be the best I can be for those who gave their lives so that I can make a difference in the world. I have been praying that God will vendicate this good man. That this country will not get away with what they are doing to his reputation. I did not vote for Hilary and if she wins the nomination I will vote for John MaCain because at least he is a man of integrity. Hiliary and Bill are not and can not be trusted. I pray everyday for Barack because I do think he is a good man and he will bring a wonderful change to this country. I am tired of the games that the Clintons play and the dirty politics of the past. I wonder how Hilary and Bill sleep at night knowing how Rev Wright is being treated in the press. They know him and know he is a good man. But I guess they don’t care too much as long as they win. How sad. I could never vote for people like this. I am so grieved by all of what has happened with Rev Wright that I can hardly speak about it.

This country needs to get its head out of the sand and admit that we have racial problems in this country. I have experience hatred from foreigners based on how White Americans view and treat Black Americans. In 1984 when I attended a college in Western PA, I went to a neighborhood pub with all of White friends. We had to leave because a man jumped on the table in front of me and said he was worst than Archie Bunker. Another experience was with a professsor at this same college who because upset because I asked her a question about an assignment. The professor began to cry, shake and pray to Jesus. She told me “You People Don’t Belong Here.” When I moved into the home I bought in VA 2 years ago my white neighbors were asked if they planned to move. This is so sad. The whole world is laughing at us because everyone else and see it but we want to bury our heads in the sand. The whole thing makes me sick. Thank you for letting me vent. I hope before I die we will be a more perfect union. God Bless America, my home sweet home.

Roland: When comparing overly heated, fire and brimstone, rehtoric, don’t forget to mention that nut bag Pat Robertson in addition to Falwell and Hagey. (Dobson, too). Bay Buchannan, with whom you debated last night, should be asked to address each of these ministers and whether she thinks they go to far and whether she thinks anyone who listened to their teachings/preachings via the pew, the radio or T.V. should be disqualified from being President unless they formally objected in some way. How can she condone McCain’s plea for Hagey’s support and Falwell’s support (before he passed away)?

  • rena

Roland: Please keep up the good work. I live in Waterloo Iowa. We are sickened of Sean Hannity and his terrible remarks about obama and the Rev. Wright. Your right, he does foam from the mouth. Will you please tell me how do you go about getting his show off the air. I already have over 150 people willing to do a petition or whatever it takes. Why does he and the clinton’s keep attacking obama. They all need to attend obama’s workshop on race and unity. Yes Iowa is small but come visit us and you will see Obama signs everywhere. We are ready for change. I kind of hate to say this but what is up with lou dobbs? He sort of likes to go negative against obama also. Cafferty is Cool.

I am so glad I found your website. I look forward to watching you on CNN and also listening to you on Micheal Basiden show. You are a very well spoken individual and I agree with you on a lot of topics. I sure do hope that you will get to meet with Sean Hannity. I have such a hard time watching Fox news. But my friend says I need to watch it to get different view points. But they are so slanted on their views. I don’t even consider them a real news show because they are so biased.
    Job well done!!

  • Jonathan Rowland

    Roland,

The answer to this question is simple but hard to swallow. Hannity belongs to that percentage of White America that has ridden the racism of yesterday (i.e. hanging, segregation and lychings), but still inflict condescension, bigotry and double-standards onto all minorities in the world. It is okay for politicians to be associated with Graham and Falwell but wrong when Obama has a relationship with someone that made a few controversial comments.

The real issue is this. Friendships are not always based on politics and views alike. I dissagree with my friends and frat brothers everyday but I still love them as human beings and respect them as men; we agree to disagree. The only thing Pastor Wright said that I felt was wrong was the remark he made about Dr. Rice. Everything else is plausible depending on who you ask. White America has not experienced the America that the pastor has and this is why they are outraged by his comments.

  • Dan

I see Fox and Friends are inciting racist thinking with the continuing loop of video on Obama latest comments. They claim to be having a debate on race, but I only see them talking among themselves. What a debate, huh. This country has had a quiet group of people who have bias and perjudice and now it is coming out. And now we have a major network openly inciting racist behavior, Fox and Friend new title should be Fox and Racist.

  • Derego

    Dear Roland,

What if Barack Obama had referred to his Kenyan grandmother “as a typical black person”, would that have generated the same degree of outrage? Certainly not.

To his white grandmother, Barack stands racially estranged in keeping with the longstanding “plantation tradition”. Thus, however thick Obama’s bloodline is to his grandmother, it is trumped by race such that the likes of Shawn Hannity are considered her close relatives in the broad racial context. This is the basis of their outrage. Nothing more nothing less.

The underpinning to the current fracas is essentially rooted in the old dispensation borne out of the plantation to cast biracial off-springs to a lower “caste”.

So as it were, Obama, having been caste black, crosses the racial divide if he made an un-salutary comment about his white grandmother. The same cannot not be said if a white person made similar remarks about their grandmother.

Those fanning the cinder of this outrage such as your very own Lou Dobbs are more than skin deep in their racism much as they profess otherwise.

    Question.

The question for white America today is “what is Obama’s race?” If the answer is black, then it reinforces the caste system in this society.

    Let the race debate begin.

    Derego

I am an African-American living in N.H., who enjoys the point of views that you express on CNN.

I have been watching both CNN and FOX. It appears to me that FOX seems to have more of an agenda covering stories. All of FOX different cable news show appears to instigate situations by replaying incidents over and over without objectivity.

For instance, “the Factor”, “Hannity & Combs” and “Greta Van Strustren” as well as FOX news appears to be anti-Obama. The same stories that CNN covers is on FOX, but CNN has a more objective style. CNN has more intelligent guess representing both sides, whereas FOX guest appears NOT to have “intelligent representation” from sides that differ from the points-of-view of there network. Why is that? I believe that since democrats will not appear on the FOX news show that they appear to be bating them for a confrontation/debate to improve ratings. Is this true? or is the hosts/newscasters/network just incompetent of objectivity.

Reporting the news and giving a one sided opinion is not fare for the millions of viewer. There are individuals in America that cannot differentiate what’s real news and what’s entertainment. FOX appears to be “straddling the fence” of entertainment and the news. Unfortunately, the days of true news reporting are at the end with FOX. “Fair & Balance”, I don’t think so. Maybe their slogan should be “FOX NEWS, ALWAYS WITH A TWIST”.

My wife and I enjoy the objectivity that CNN provides and your intelligent opinions/editorials you display. I even have my 16 year old listen to CNN debates on different topics, especially on the Obama controversy.(when your on).

Thank you for providing a role model for not just African-Americans, but for ALL people here in America.

    Best Regards,
    Alan & Delena Smith

everyone says keep religion out of politics, well except if what a person says can be used against him, or anyone who heard him speak. this is unamerican and i am sick of the far right who took a idea of God and made it dirt. the hate of these people is the same hate that hitler used to take over germany and at this time GERMANY WAS THE MOST EDUCATED AND RELIGIOUS COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. EVERY PERSON WHO HAS EVER SPENT A LOT OF TIME SPEAKING IN PUBLIC WILL TELL YOU THEY HAVE SAID THINGS THEY WISHED YEARS LATER THAN HADN’T—BUT IT IS THEIR SPEECH NOT THE PERSON SITTING IN THE AUDIENCE.

  • Jimmy Sanborn

(This letter is not in support of any political candidate. It is to make sure that the people of the United States are aware of what is being taught to the next generation; in hopes to overcome such barriers and continue our fight for equality and justice for ALL people of this Great Land. For over a week now, the learning of these types of sermons has brought sadness and stirred mixed feelings of anger in my heart. After prayer and deep thought I concluded that I must do what ever I can to help bring attention to this type of hatred, and to let people know there is ‘a better way’).
Webster dictionary, Racism; is hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.
The people were all jumping around and praising the lord at the thought of hating the white people, and there were CHILDREN in the congregation that day during one of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s famous sermons. Not a very nice picture for a white man who attends a church of mixed races that teaches love in the name of our Lord to everyone no matter their skin color.
Dr Martin Luther King said that “we need not drink from the cup of bitterness and hatred”.
Hate is a cancer, and hate divides and has no justification.
What has become disturbing to me is not only were the people in the crowd excited about hating white people, but also their CHILDREN were present. If the people praise hate at church then they most likely teach it at home. All this time I have stood for equality, while their children are being taught to hate my children. This threatens my family’s safety. It shatters our feelings of comfort in our surroundings. The teaching that went on in Senator Obama’s church was the teachings of hate and division. Senator Obama had a choice along time ago to choose a different church, but choose to stay and subject his children to such teachings. Instead of routing out hate Senator Obama has made excuse for it and feeds it into the next generation, by allowing his children and other children to be subjected to such a display of hatred toward other people because of their skin color.
Babies are not born prejudiced, but children are taught it. We teach by example and perception, words do matter as they form preferences. As long as hate is passed down from fathers to sons, mothers to daughters we will have prejudice. Whether it be prejudice against the White, Black, Native American, Hispanic or Asian what ever the skin color.
I am a white 45 year old man with four children that I have taught to be Christians and love thy neighbor no matter their skin color for it simply is not an issue with us. It seems to be a very big issue with Obama’s church as they danced around praising the hate of white people in front of their CHILDREN.
Most men my age are proud to be Americans, and do not want to hear a pastor pushing hate like that, while we are attempting to raise our children in love and kindness. I kind of think it is or should be a form of child abuse. Actually I feel when someone summits to hate it weakens the entire race and existence of man kind. Hate in my home is considered swearing, and the feeling of hate is discouraged.
I can not support Senator Obama after this. The risk is just too high. Our eyes must be awakened to what we are teaching our youth. The effects of these teachings on society can not be measured because of the people not knowing of there presence and just how close to home these teachings actually are. Especially when a United States Senator and contender for the Presidency of the United States is a part of, or has been a part of a ministry with this type of racial doctrine.
Hatred being taught in cities like Chicago, or even New York City could be a contributing factor in the high levels of gang activity. Someone may have already died from such teachings. After being taught all your life to hate a certain race can only lead to further violence. Something must be done about this; there must be ‘a better way’.
A signal has to be sent that this type of teaching’s and division can not go on. You can not be the President of the United States and also be a part of such bashing of man kind no matter his/her skin color. Supporting Senator Obama after this would show support for such hate teachings and the divisions that are direct result of these teachings (teaching hatred of a race to CHILDREN).
Senator Obama should be able to see that it was in poor judgment to belong to a church who preaches hatred within the human race, much more to stay a part of that church for 20 years. I feel for America, and all the work that we Americans have done and continue to do, to break down these racial divides. It is shocking to find out that here in America hate is being preached behind the doors and in the house of the Lord.
I feel that it is now time for Senator Obama to step down from public office. He still has the ability to do a lot of good things in the private sector if he so chose’s. He was a part of this type of teaching, for far too long; to just simply state that he did not follow his churches ways. Actions and reactions speak in volumes much louder then speeches do.
I certainly wish I would have had this knowledge before the primaries came through my state on Super Tuesday. Thank you for your time and please feel free to e-mail me if you wish at jimmy_sanborn2000@yahoo.com
The right kind of change we need now and in this situation would be teaching our children that there is ‘a better way’. Thank You, Jimmy Sanborn

I cannot wait until you are on CNN. You are awesome! I know that if you are talking about Obama, Hillary or McCain that it will be honest and straight forward. I loved watching you when the elections was on and they were tallying up the votes. Your comments were so good. Keep up the good work Roland and give my blessings to your wife.

    Roland,

Wow….the way you think scares the hell out of me. I just researched you….now I get it you have ties to Chicago…to Obama and Reverend Wright. Give it another 5 weeks to PA and you and Obama will doing something other than politics and reporting. It seems you don’t like to post comments that don’t favor you so let’s see if this one makes it. Obama is done and you know it you should urge him to get out of the race before he is so embarassed publicly he can still depart with dignity. Have you actually made a sale for even one of your books????? Pleeeeeeeese

    Roland:

My brother, you are a breathe of fresh air. Happy Easter to you and your family. You are an outstanding professional. There is so much to say to you. My wife and I are both professionals in Atlanta. We are switching channels waiting to see when you will be on CNN or TVOne. We know of several other couples that are doing the same things. Your comments are always well-thought out and spot on. I am also a regular listener of Hannity. The guy is spewing so much hate that I believe a cogent case can be made for him to be prosecuted for a hate crime. I am an attorney but not a prosecutor.

I am an ardent Obama supporter. I feel as though Hannity is spewing this vitriol against Michelle and Barack because he lacks any substantivee points that he feels can take root. However, the race issue can be successfully orchestrated to turn otherwise somewhat moderate but less informed individuals into big time haters. This type of conduct is not simply reckless and unprofessional but it is downright dangerous.

I would have thought that the Hannity;s of the world would at least be cognizant of the fact that your words can have a devastating effect on some individuals. His good buddy Elizabeth from the VIEW, comes on and gives in the morning on ABC the same hatred. At least in her case with Whoopi there, she tries to make it subliminal but it is so clear.

As stated in your post, they have selective memory and even the things they remember are “not quite as damaging” it always seems than when its Obama case in point McCain’s big gaffe in Iraq even though he is supposedly the foreign affairs/national security guru.

God Bless you on your journey. Keep Focused. Boom Shaka Laka.

  • Celina Bean

    Roland,

Speaking of Sean Hannity, why hasn’t anyone mentioned Sean’s relationship with Hal Turner. There is an interview of Sean on Fox and he was asked about his relationship with Hal Turner. Do you know who he is. There is a You Tube of Hal Turner and it is the most despicable thing that you would ever want to hear. He has a radio show where they actually talk about niggers, etc. It is really scarey. Please google and put the video out there for all to see. I’m still in shock. You can also find links to it in the Huffington Report. There is also a link in there about Sean and his relationship with this guy, who Sean denied knowing on his show. You could tell that the black guy who asked Sean about it pushed Sean’s button and Sean was shaken. Please look at it and post it where needed.

  • Celina Bean

Sean needs to denounce, reject and repudiate Hal Turner also. Now, you’re talking about the chickens coming home to roost. If anyone gets a chance, please google Hal Turner. He is an awful person and he hates black people, among other minorities.

  • Celina Bean

    Roland,

I see that you keep baiting Sean to debate you, but it will never happen. He is too much of a chicken. Keep calling him though. If it happens, please let the world know, so that we can see what a wimp Sean really is.

  • Karen

    Roland
It’s evident to me and a lot of other blacks that you do not get the full impact of Rev. Wright’s sermons. There is absolutely no excuse, reason or purpose for this type of talk. Sound bites, clips or not. You want to make excuses, point fingers and bring up McCain, Rod Parsley, John Hagee, and Cain & Able. The questions are about Rev. Wright and Baracks relationship with him in light of the fact that he has been there at the church for 20 years.

There have been a lot of goods things in America in relation to Race, Gender and Sexual Orientation. This issue is not about just race but also the Anti-Americanism that is taught at Trinity United and Rev. Wright (I live in Chicago) and he has had a long history of it.

You are no different from Sean Hannity when I watch you on CNN and have heard you here (Chicago) locally. You are rude when speaking to others on the panel if they do not agree with your views, angry when your views are challenged. You cannot make everyone or anyone vote for or support Barack Obama and that includes some of us African Americans. The best thing you can do if you really want to progress Blacks is be a responsible journalist and lose the biasness.

It wouldn’t hurt if you smiled more because you are very uptight (body language, gestures and laughing at guest panel opinions). You should want to do better since you’re spending so much time pointing out Sean Hannity’s flaws.

  • http://rolandsmartin.com Roland

    Karen,

    Your comments are ridiculous.

How do you make the decision that Wright preaches anti-Americanism? Have you actually heard his sermons, or are you making a decision based on snippets? And how do you determine what makes a good or bad American?

And Karen, I’m more than willing to enter into a debate with anyone. As for smiling, I do that after I’ve beaten my opponents.

    Just like I’m smiling now.

  • http://rolandsmartin.com Roland

Oh yea, Karen, you spoke of sexual orientation.

Do you know that Trinity ordained an openly gay minister in the early 70s, and is supportive of same sex marriage.

Oh yea, that’s pretty controversial. I guess Sean Hannity hasn’t brought that one up yet.

But you probably already knew that, right?

  • Dan

It is obvious Karen is not a “sister”. Sounds like Sean Hannity in Drag. Karen, (or Sean) every black person in American understands what Pastor Wright is saying. You are showing us who you are, no, not just a difference of opinon, this is something every Black person knows. And you obviously do not know. Karen, or is it Sean (throw-a-rock and hide your hand) Hannity.

  • Lawrence

Let’s see…. Where should I start? We live in the United States of America, the land of the so-called free, home of the so-called brave. The fact of the matter is most people in America are completely lost, lost in a legacy of hate. Hate has been used as a suppressor of love, a fear tactic, and most of all a tool to discriminate based on our differences. The history of the United States is very rich in hate. This nation’s hatred started with the invasion of an indigenous land to the enslavement of Africans for the benefit of the privileged. My definition of the privileged are those who call themselves Christian, but hate the image of a Christian. It is almost unbelievable that in 2008 we still have to deal with hate. One would think that with all the lessons learned from our history, we would have over come our differences and learn to love the diversity. However, people are still dealing with the hatred of the passed. Look at the 2008 election, we have an African America (Barack Obama) who has the vision and spirit to take United States of America to new heights. I truly believe that Barack has the true leadership and common sense skills to superimpose our metaphysical reality. When I say superimpose our meta- physical reality, I mean we as a people would learn to love ourselves and others with the encouragement of a leader who would be invested in us. He would not only improve the United States, but the World. However, the hatred of United States continues to show its true color. This nation was constructed on the backs of slaves and has never showed any remorse or gratitude. That is another story for another time.

The entire statements made by Dr. Jeremiah Wright, not just the sound bytes, speak the truth. The truth hurts. The media and the media investors only want to focus on the negative. This is another hate fear tactic used to swing the political majority towards a certain party to conquer and divide. As grand as America is or as grand as America wants to be, we make up only one small part of the world. We must learn to operate together regardless of race, sex, and religion.

  • Sean Bevans

    Roland:

We can all agree that the controversy surrounding this issue has revealed some unspoken nuances regarding people’s perception about race-in particular, race based dialogues. When I examine this issue from a broader context, it makes me sad, because it shows that race is still a divisive issue in the country.

I honestly think that if Dr. Wright recited the alphabet in the same style and manner in which he gave his sermon, many white Americans would still respond negative to it. The public condemnation of Dr. Wright reveals a truth about how people of color are perceived when they articulate in a style that’s foreign to the mainstream. This is why a national dialogue on race is imperative. But is it possible?

Many whites avoid engaging in substantive dialogue about race because they fear being stigmatized as racist. Our institutions live under this threat of being stigmatized as racist and they’re almost panicked over it. What makes me sad is that whites look at what happened to Don Imus and I realize they’re never going to tell me what they really feel, but they will talk honestly about it amongst themselves. They will talk about it at their weekly bowling leagues, union meetings, elk fraternity meetings, and any other meeting place where there is an absence of blacks.

Sadly, the conservative media and political operatives have helped in deterring the effort for real dialogue by reinforcing racial misconceptions and myths, and it’s obvious that they want the status quo to continue. Look at Sean Hannity for example, what is he really afraid of?

  • Jonathan Rowland

    Karen,

The color of your skin doesn’t make you a sister. You want Roland to put on his tap shoes? This isn’t the menstral show. Smile more? Get out of here. The house slaves didn’t like it when the field slaves showed up their master. We sick boss?

  • J. Rowland

    Roland,

It seems that the new question is why was Pastor Wright discusing politics from the pulpit. Questions as such, indicate that the huge culture gap between whites and blacks remain after all these years. We are people that were basically ignored by its government so we had to look to our family, music, teachers and church family for inspiration and direction. In most cases the mass media do not bring our issues to their platforms so we discuss them in church or at the community picnic. The funnny thing is that the one person that gets the most credit for liberating us and gets the utmost respect from White America was indeed a Rev. He didn’t just discuss the problems of Blacks in the steets, he discussed them in church as well. The media is trying to smear Obama and this was their perfect opportunity. CNN is even attacking the credibility of New Mexico’s Gov. to suggest that his edorsement is worthless.

  • WAKE-UP

Farrakhan, Malcolm X, and now Rev. Wright—– Every time the powers to be want to scare white people they throw these names out.

    Roland,

PLEASE ask them to answer these question; how many massacres of white people did they lead? How many white people did they hang? How many white people did they rape? The only thing they did was speak out!!!

The thing that bothers me most in this matter is that the people 60 years and older know better. They were a part of the history of segregation and they get on TV acting brand new with their “I’m so appalled” statements (it’s sickening to watch). They are playing on the minds of less educated whites who really just want change in this country and saw Barack as that change. They are counting on the whites, 66% of the American population to vote their race instead of their conscience. This is sad!

  • WAKE-UP

    ROLAND,

I agree with Renee’s request… Will you please find a way to do an in-depth report on Rev. Wright, “The Man And The Myth”??? To many things are being presented out of context and we can’t allow our Black Leaders to continue to fall under attack because they speak out. Two days after 9/11 on the 700 club show Pat Robinson and Jerry Farwell made simular remarks as Rev. Wright.

As far as Karen is concerned I hope that she digs deeper into the truth before she spills any more poison (LIKE SEAN HANNITY).

  • Karen

    Roland
I’m not your opponent (and don’t know who is) but I am glad to know you’re smiling. Stop being so bitter.

  • http://rolandsmartin.com Roland

I’m not bitter, darling. I’m hyena happy, peacock proud and elephant elated!

  • Karen

    Jonathan Rowland
    Hi
I am a black woman regardless if I’m your sister or not. Roland doesn’t need to tap his shoes and put on a show because you just did it for us. The word is “minstrel” and stop with the house slave sayings because it’s demeaning to all races who were slaves.

  • Karen

    Roland
I’m just stating “my” opinion. You are where you’re at in life today because of the good things you’ve done and accomplished. I don’t always agree with your approach and take on issues but such is life. Stay happy, proud and elated! If only everyone could be that way along with some exercise it’ll keep us here a little bit longer!

  • Karen

    Dan
When all else fails start the derogatory name calling “Sounds like Sean Hannity in Drag. Karen, (or Sean)”. You obviously know what my name is.

  • Dan

Karen, you are right. This fight is with the issue. And the issue is usually misunderstood, that’s why it is an issue. Communication brings us to the table. We may not agree, but getting to the table demonstrate a willingness to listen. The best I find to get one attention is to say the words that get the individual’s attention, I have your attention. Now let us seek all the information an the issue, or issues, before sitting down at the table. I am somewhat confused about this Paster Wright issue. I have seen the looped video on the networks, but I never saw or listened to the entire sermom. Now the Networks are making this a this the center piece of their aurgument. The words of Pastor Wright, and why did Obama stay with the Church for 20-years. Well, first off, I listened and viewed the entire sermon in question. And then I listened to Candidated Obama, and compared this to Senator Obama, and compare again to the Man and the Father Obama. Now listen and listen well, to understand how I concluded my thoughts on this issue. I found the words of Pastor Wright understandable and in perfect context of the message he we trying to convey at that time, again, perfectly understandable. That does not mean I agree with all that Pastor Wright said, but after listening and viewing the video, I understand what Pastor Wright was at this time. In addition, I also did research on Pastor Wright’s history of works and actions within “his community” and his recognition of others, “out his community”. Pastor Wright is recognized for works and actions, not by words. Don’t get lost, I am taking you on my path of understanding. Remember, this “does not mean” I agree, this means “I understand”. Now, to Barack Obama. What I found with Barach Obama is that this “man” has been the consistent when dealing with issues throughout his career. Senator Obama, Organizer Obama, Candidate Obama, the Man Obama, and being Husband and Father Obama. This is what you call character! I know we are not use to seeing this in our public official, but character is coming back. And Barack Obama is oozing character. Now, this is how I found my truth on an issue that the main stream media and concern commentators are trying to make this a racial incitement of non-black. Now, if you are not an African Amercian, I undestand why you cannot understand what I have just given you (yes, this is a gift). Now, if you are African American, you have exposure to all that I have said, and you should have understanding of what is happening historically in front of you. (remember, you do not have to agree with something to have an understanding on an issue) And of cause if you Sean Hannity, well, your just trying to start more of what you do best.

  • Dan

Excuse the misspelling. By the way, when this is all said and done, many will revisit Pastor Wright’s sermon and begin to here the truth. That’s called understanding.

  • http://kingdomnuggets.blogspot.com Rain

Wow! I don’t know where to start with this, but I have wanted to comment on this for a few days now. I won’t get into my foremost thoughts on this matter, but I though the readers here would find this article about Hannity over at the Huffington Post very interesting to say the least:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/23/sean-hannity-confronted-o_n_92961.html. I also happened to visit the website of Hannity’s association in question and the front page was filled with so much hateful, derogatory language and profanity that I could take it only for a few minutes. For instance, he refers to Sen. Obama as a “half breed negro overt with Marxist leanings”. See for yourself: http://halturnershow.com/

Roland, I know the US has done a lot of bad. But the good outweighs the bad as far as I am concerned.

The dropping of the atom bomb on Japan has to stand as the single most horrible action in human history. But, there must have been sound reason to it, regardless of whether you like it or not.

My belief is that it was felt without it, there was no way Japan would surrender. I believe in the battle for Belin, there were 100,000 Russian caulties. Eisenhower didn’t want to fight for Berlin because of the horrible loss of life.

Even so, it was 60 years ago. How long after an event are you going to damn your country (read white leaders)? What purpose does it serve?!?!

  • W Johnson

    Karen

ROLAND IS HUGE with the name calling! He has an ego as big as his forehead!!

He writes oatmeal, acts like it is a biblical revelation, ignores challenges and when pressed gets nasty.

Remember that whole thing about a typical day in the life. BS!!! Nothing more than Rollie hyping.

He’s going to some correspondence school for his Masters and acts like he is has some great insight when he is nothing more than a token.

    At least it’s fun!

  • Ducannon Allen

    To W. Johnson.

Roland is a big guy and can defend himself. I just find your comments particularly disgusting. Karen’s points of view are different from mine but I give much respect to the Sista. However, to try to belittle Roland on his own blog about how he is getting an education is juvenile. At least he is legitimately improving himself. Lets be bigger than that. I support Obama but everyone blackk does not have to. We can agree to disagree and I dont think it warrants a name calling you are still my brother/sista.

  • J. Rowland

    Karen,

Oh you got me! I misspelled a word! I bet you have the collectors set of that show in your Beta player right now. Roland you are a man first and a CNN contributor second therefore you can smile whenever you want brother. We’ll let Karen handle the patronizing.

  • J. Rowland

    W Johnson,

I dare you to use another line other than “he writes oatmeal”. Ducannon and Karen are right, the name calling is unnecessary and immature. And we will hold this country’s wrong doings against it until the establishment accept some accountability and stop its hypocrisy. Pastor Wrights comments were the truth just as MLK, JFK, Ed Peck and Malcolm’s were. The truth hurts. To bad today’s society prefers the comfort of political correctness. Arrogance = Hell on Earth!

  • http://deleted nerakami

The most amazing aspect of Sean Hannity for me is his relentless professing to be a man of God… believe it or not, he actually went to Seminary school! I know, I swallowed on that one too.. however, I have one thing to say to Mr. Hannity…. whatever one plants so shall he reap. The Law of Karma clearly states that the energy we give off will certainly come back to us. It doesn’t matter how much his words may want to portray him as christian-like, God surely know his heart and Universal laws meters in like manner. I will be around to see the downfall of Sean Hannity…. you can mark my words on that… I am not wishing it upon him… it is the law of the Universe that ordains energy attracts like energy… selah.

  • http://deleted nerakami

I am also a bit perplexed not at the disagreements but with the sarcasm and sometimes demeaning manner of one to another in these posts. Let us all, please re-learn our habits of conversing::::: to be open to try and “Listen” to the other’s point in its entirety. If there is within it that does not sit well with you, then in respectful tones, put forward your viewpoints, and we can continue in a very respectful way until we feel the other has walked away, with at least an understanding of the other’s perspective. If we are unable to speak to each other dignified and with reason, how then do we ever expect others with different cultures & experiences to get where we are coming from? Above all things, we must at least start with understanding……..

  • Jimmy Sanborn

Rev. Wright preached hate to young children period. It has been going on for along time. Hate does not bring people together. It divides us. It is so powerful it has divided a party. Some are even claiming that the white man is the enemy. Not once, but twice. Rev. Wright.

Dr. Martin Luther King was not about hate, from what I have studied about him, his fight was for peace. He would be angried at the thought of teaching it to children. Feedin it into the next generation. Senator Obama supported this by sticking around, and not calling for an end to such teachings.

To teach a child to hate someone because of his skin color is wrong no matter how you spin it.

  • Jimmy Sanborn

Roilland, You do get pretty testy when people point out your ‘WRONG’.

What Karen had to say sounded like it was from the heart, you kinda come back attacking.

  • Robert

I tell you why Sean didn’t go after Jack Kemp. I saw the interview and everytime Hannity tried to go after Rev. Wright, Jack Kemp to him that he di not come on his show to get into attacking someone else. This happened on 2 – 3 occasions.

  • HUGgy bear

    Brother Roland:

Just to get an understanding and to pray if need be, does Brother JEREMIAH Wright support same-sex marriage? Did he knowingly ordain a minister who is gay? I know you said “TRINITY” ; but “TRINITY” does not necessarily mean Brother JEREMIAH Wright.

Please note that not loving a LIFESTYLE does not mean not loving the PEOPLE who practice it.

Please, please Roland, REMEMBER that it is very very important for the people of GOD ALMIGHTY to be HUMBLE. HUMILITY does not mean licking the feet of the OPPRESSOR. I PRAY that all of the people of ALMIGHTY GOD will become a DELIGHTSOME people, not a “PROUD” people. “PRIDE goes before DESTRUCTION.”

  • HUGgy bear

In addition to my last comments, Brother Roland:

One can be BOLD, yet is HUMBLE. One can be POWERFUL, yet is HUMBLE.

Let me share this with you. I am normally a SHY person. Sometimes I have a lot of difficulty finding words to express my thoughts because the English language is not the tongue of my ‘MOTHER’, infact the tongue of my ‘MOTHER’ has been lost, yet sometimes…..(use your imagination).

  • Hiram Abiff

    HUGgy bear,

I agree, we must remain humble before God who to me is Jesus Christ. Rather the English language is your mother tongue or not, does not mean anything. Brother just try to the best of your ability to express yourself and dont use excuses.

Who cares about the tongue of your Mother being lost? This is America where your Mother and Ancestors have been speaking English for a very long time, rather the King’s English /or/ the Poor-man’s English.

On top of that Africa has went straight to Hell by Black Africans who use and abuse the Poor. I say “WE” African Americans build a Army, Navy, and Air Force-go over to Africa and take the “Whole Continent” from Present Day Africans who allow their relatives and our distance relatives to live in supreme poverty ;-)

    Karen wrote:
“This issue is not about just race but also the Anti-Americanism that is taught at Trinity United and Rev. Wright (I live in Chicago) and he has had a long history of it.”

Really? A “long” history of anti-Americanism? If Rev. Wright had a “history” of Anti-Americanism, then surely Hannity and his ilk would’ve found more commentary than the perpetual loop of Wright’s most incendiary comments that have been making the rounds in the blogosphere.

Wright preaches about Black Liberation Theology, and his church is unapologetically Black. These sentiments do not equal anti-Americanism. Neither do Wright’s condemnations for what America has done (including the treatment of White women — Wright’s condemnation of this country for its shameful treatment of white women seems to have gone unnoticed by Wright’s detractors).

To Karen and others, where is this “documented history” of hate that Wright is supposed to have been spewing for his 20+ years in the ministry? Most of the people who state that have admitted that they have not heard the entire “controversial” sermon in full, nor have they heard anything other than what’s been spoon-fed to them by the good folks at Faux News.

    Subject: Jeremiah
    Date: Tue, 8 Apr 2008 16:38:11 -0500

I thought it interesting that no one in the media, except the lady who appears on the Sunday Morning news program with George Stephanopoulos has mentioned Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s military history. My friend, Tim sent me the following. It is nice to see things from different perspectives.

In 1961, a young African-American man, after hearing President John F. Kennedy’s challenge to, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country,” gave up his student deferment, left college in Virginia and voluntarily joined the Marines.

In 1963, this man, having completed his two years of service in the Marines, volunteered again to become a Navy corpsman. (They provide medical assistance to the Marines as well as to Navy personnel.)

The man did so well in corpsman school that he was the valedictorian and became a cardiopulmonary technician. Not surprisingly, he was assigned to the Navy’s premier medical facility, Bethesda Naval Hospital, as a member of the commander in chief’s medical team, and helped care for President Lyndon B. Johnson after his 1966 surgery. For his service on the team, which he left in 1967, the White House awarded him three letters of commendation.

What is even more remarkable is that this man entered the Marines and Navy not many years after the two branches began to become integrated.

While this young man was serving six years on active duty, Vice President Dick Cheney, who was born the same year as the Marine/ sailor, received five deferments, four for being an undergraduate and graduate student and one for being a prospective father. Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, both five years younger than the African-American youth, used their student deferments to stay in college until 1968. Both then avoided going on active duty through family connections.

Who is the real patriot? The young man who interrupted his studies to serve his country for six years or our three political leaders who beat the system? Are the patriots the people who actually sacrifice something or those who merely talk about their love of the country?
After leaving the service of his country, the young African-American finished his final year of college, entered the seminary, was ordained as a minister, and eventually became pastor of a large church in one of America’s biggest cities.

This man is Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the retiring pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ.

  • Hiram

Rev. Jeremiah Wright is like General Albert Pike they both say great things are deep down inside were and or are Racists ;-) However I’m glad the Rev. Wright put Obama in his place by making such stupid statements.

Rev. Wright made those statements on purpose because Obama disrespected Rev. Wright and his good ole Friend Louis Farrakhan. Rev. Wright made Obama to the man he is today, therefore Obama owes the Good Reverend his Soul, lol ;-) Obama has pissed on all those of Black Ancestry, thats why Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton asked the question-is he (Obama) Black enough?

I’m still pissed that Senator Barack “The Messiah” Obama didn’t attend (Jena 6 Events, State of the Black Union, or Dr. Kings Anniversary) because as he (Obama) puts it “Hey Homies I’m on the Campaign Trail Holla Back”. Yet Obama found, made and had time to attend MSNBC College Tour in order to speak to the Majority of White Kids and White America.

So I guess thats the great plan, Polarize your own Race for the greater good of the Majority, what a Sellout to the 10th Degree, lol.
Its all a joke ;-) the Black Man will never fully rise in this evil Country of Romans and Greeks, oh yeah Black Greeks as well, HA!

“Long Lives the Queen who sh!ts on the World”

It’s unfortunate how Jeremiah Wright is being portrayed in the media. It is even more unfortunate that Rev Wright is feeding the media frenzy. So what should Barack do?

He can take a page out of the Clinton “Bimbo eruption” playbook. Sixteen years ago Bill Clinton hit the problem head on during a 60 minutes set with the one person who had credibility to stand by him through the ordeal: Hillary Clinton. Obama should follow suit and do a media interview with a group of credible pastor’s who with Obama can along acknowledge Wright’s community work throughout the years but distance themselves from Wright’s extreme words, while sprinkling laments about Obama’s faith and values. This does 2 things:
    1) Handles the Wright issue, distancing himself further from Wright
    2) Reassures voters (especially independent voters) of his Christian Faith [10% of the public believe Obama is muslim]

After this Obama can claim that he has sufficiently addressed the Wright issue and when asked about it in the future he can refocus the media on the public’s problems. Remember Bill Clinton saying, “the hits I’m taking are nothing compared to what Americans take everyday whose government doesn’t provide access to healthcare.”

Obama’s recommended talking points: “Jeremiah Wright’s not running for president. I’m focusing on turning this ecomony around so that Americans have jobs that pay good wages. I’m focusing on expanding access to healthcare in America. I’m focusing on ensuring secure pensions for our seniors.”

  • Bhagwan Gray

John Carlos face criticism for lifting his fist in the air during the olympics (Because, Black’s should always be as patriotic as those who would call them boy and make him a second class citizen)

Mohammad Ali delt with mass criticism for not being the “Joe Louis” when it came to “Vietnam” and put on the uniform an get used by the “U.S. Government” He lost his title, his career, but never lost his sense of right. Now he’s one of the most revered Men on Earth.

Spike Lee is always given greif for his movies that put “Black & White” America on notice without pulling punches an worring about what others think or there opinion are. Spike Lee is still one of the most recongnized “Film Maker” in the Country.

Malcom X was thee most hate & feared Black Man on “EARTH”. His call for “African American” to stand strong and not vindicate the “White Fears” and simple except secondary scraps until they decide to give you more. An even when he decided his “Radical” view were not exactly true, White still didn’t let him hear the end of it.

Rev Jerimah Wright made statement that could only have been made after 7 years of the “Bullshit” Politic involving the “Bush Administration”. But instead, we see white america feeling a sense of fear. Fear so strong that an “Associate” of Obama can speak so strong and without concern for “Fake” consequences that someone on “Lou Dobbs” actually suggested that “They’d rather vote for McCain because they’d rather have 4 more years of Bush Bullshit than a black man that make white america feel stupid.”

The ultimate question…If Obama Does win the Presidency, will he become “America’s President” or “White America’s” President. Because lets be real… We don’t need another “Tiger Wood” or “Michael Jordan” that can make America feel safe and comfortable at the rist of being that insignificant “Black Man” nobody cared about outside of sports.

Can Obama win against Clinton without a “Backbone” and face down his criticiser and show he’s as tough and strong and not effected by “New Opinion” like a “Real Leader” should be.

  • marium

I see the powers that be got what they wanted. For Obama to denounce Rev. Wright who told the truth at least on every talk show that I have seen him speak on. Now fewer whites will vote for him and fewer blacks, I suspect. I guess the divide and conquer tactic works again. If Obama was going to ever denounce Rev. Wright then he should have been prepared for this storm before he ever announced running for president in my opinion. If he did not see this coming what else is he not going to see. Hillary will not be scrutinized for any of her lies (Bosnia and enemy fire). The media mentions it and moves on. Lou Dobbs had nerve enough to say on his show last night that Obama talked about “Red Necks and their guns and religion”. Then he said “or at least that is what he was implying”. Once again, Roland, I ask what is the matter with the media and their comprehension. Or, is that white people still feel they can tell blacks to shut up and sit down until I say move. That is not what Obama meant when he talked about People clinging to religion and guns. At this point, I am fed up with the media and the campaign both democratic and republican. And by the way, I guess it still holds true that if you have 1 drop of black blood you are still considered black in America.

  • Clancy

Obama handled this one just right. Those folks who wanted him to come out and diss wright sooner are cowboys. Look what it got them with this president. We need someone who can reflect on things before making a rash decision. He gave Wright a chance and Wright blew it. White people need to get a grip. We don’t hate you. But race is a part of our life and we have every right to talk about it; we need to talk about it. Most whites I know don’t want to talk about it at all. Fine. Your right too. Wright’s biggest mistake to me was not the allegededly unpatriotic comments, not even the HIV comment. It was his statement that Farrakhan was not his enemy because he did not hurt him and did not make him black. To me that statement basically said, All I care about is who hurts me; if they hurt you then too bad, not my problem. Farrakhan has done some good things for sure and the press doesn’t want to focus upon them. But there are racist groups that did good things in their communities too and then turned around and spewed racial venom and did more to blacks. That statement about Farrakhan underscored that Wright needs to take a deep breath and think about all of this, as a Christian. Experiencing racism, particularly when people don’t want to acknowledge that it happened, can make one very bitter to use a famous phrase. It was time for Obama to shake him off along with the other whitey haters hanging onto the campaign.
