Democrats finally getting religion on religion

Sweet, Jesus! What has gotten into the Democratic Party when it comes to issues of faith?

On Sunday, CNN will broadcast the Compassion Forum, an event hosted by CNN’s Campbell Brown and Newsweek editor Jon Meacham that will explore issues of faith and morality with Democratic presidential candidates, Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

This is the second time that the top Democratic candidates will deal with issues of faith. On June 4, CNN’s Soledad O’Brien moderated a forum hosted by the Rev. Jim Wallis’ Sojourners Social Justice Ministry. That one featured Obama, Clinton and former Sen. John Edwards.

These forums should not be casually overlooked and blown off because they represent a significant shift in attitude from previous Democratic presidential campaigns. Democrats, in the words of Sen. Joseph Biden after the Sojourners forum, acted more like agnostics – other would say atheists – when it came to issues of faith.

For nearly 30 years, Republicans successfully used wedge issues like abortion and homosexuality to rally their base to those social causes and elect candidates who were willing to go to the mat when they came up. Their outreach efforts were strong, consistent and they delivered time and time again. And as long as Democrats were willing to ignore the ever-increasing concerns of people who tied their faith with public policy, the GOP would continue to clean up at the ballot box.

Yet the outreach efforts by Clinton and Obama should serve as an example to all Democratic officeholders that ignoring voters who feel strongly about their faith, and public policy, will continue to lead to losses.

Sunday’s forum, which will be held at held at Messiah College in Grantham, Penn., will allow each candidate to speak for 40 minutes on various moral issues, including poverty, global AIDS, climate change and human rights. These are all vital issues that we should want to hear our presidential candidates discuss at length, and it’s time that our debates and discussions with the candidates went beyond the war in Iraq, illegal immigration and terrorism.

While on the surface it looks good for Democrats to embrace those in the faith world, they are some serious potential land mines they are going to have to confront.

I have always maintained that people of faith who are conservative need to move beyond the issues of abortion and homosexuality and broaden what are deemed faith issues, the Democratic Party is going to have to begin to have some serious discussions as to how it’s going to confront social issues and not deal with abortion and homosexuality.

For instance, I got an email last week from several gay party activists who are disturbed that the Rev. James Meeks, founder and pastor of Salem Baptist Church, the second-largest church in Illinois, has endorsed Obama. Why? Because Meeks opposes abortion and homosexuality. I know him well because I am a member of the same church.

In January, gay supporters of Obama were aghast that his campaign would allow gospel singer Donnie McClurkin to participate in a gospel tour around South Carolina because he has discussed being a former homosexual who converted to being a heterosexual.

This is no different from gay activists being less than thrilled to see Sen. Hillary Clinton touting the endorsement of the Rev. Harold Mayberry, a Bay Area pastor who is anti-gay marriage.

And when several gay bloggers heard that President Bush’s spiritual adviser, the Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, pastor of Houston’s Windsor Village United Methodist Church – the largest UMC congregation in the country – was backing Obama, they also cited his opposition to homosexuality, forcing the campaign to say he would in no way be campaigning on behalf of the candidate. Thus far, they have remained true to that, not making Caldwell available on behalf of the campaign since that endorsement came down three months ago.

In talking with officials from the Obama and Clinton campaigns, I jokingly said that if they were both trying to use only the black pastors who would pass muster by their gay and pro-choice supporters, they might be able to find two in the whole country!

If the Democratic Party is serious about fostering a relationship with the faith community, they are going to have to come to grips with the fact that there are Democrats of faith who are pro-life and anti-gay marriage, but who are in agreement on other social issues such as the response to the rapid rise of HIV/AIDS and eradicating poverty.

Gay rights and pro-choice activists are clearly not going to back down from advancing their agenda, but they can be assured that people of faith are not going to be silent for the sake of a political party.

What is clear is that in the political realm, there must be an understanding of the secular and theological worlds. And there are clear examples when folks who operated in the secular world want to apply their standards to those in the theological world, and vice versa.

It was wrong of the party in 1992 to deny Pennsylvania Sen. Robert Casey Sr. a speaking slot at its national convention because he was going to speak on his support of life. If the Republicans could allow Colin Powell to say he supported affirmative action at their convention in 2000, then surely the Democrats can stand to hear someone disagree with one of their primary issues.

Is there room for people with opposing views on various issues to support either Obama or Clinton? Absolutely. But if either campaign is hell-bent on silencing their faith supporters because of such a disagreement, they risk alienating them, thus depriving the party of a broader constituency to take back the White House.

In other words, ignore the churchgoing folks, and you don’t stand a prayer of winning.

I saw ths commentary on CNN last night but didn’t realize you had a blog on your personal site. I wanted to respond to your commentary before the show but my response was quite lengthy so I emailed it to you rather than attempting to post it through CNN. I have found that on some of the web forms they limit the character counts on posts and I really wanted to make sure I didn’t have to leave anything off.

Thank you for taking the time to read it if you do, I hope it inspires at least some thought

    Dear Sir,

After reading your remarks I can only say that as a law abiding citizen of the USA and an atheist I am deeply offended by your profoundly discriminatory attitude. You might want to read what some of us think about this recent incident:

    http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2008/04/get_out_of_here_atheists.php

Rep. Monique Davis (D-Chicago) interrupted atheist activist Rob Sherman during his testimony Wednesday afternoon before the House State Government Administration Committee in Springfield and told him, “What you have to spew and spread is extremely dangerous . . . it’s dangerous for our children to even know that your philosophy exists!
“This is the Land of Lincoln where people believe in God,” Davis said. “Get out of that seat . . . You have no right to be here! We believe in something. You believe in destroying! You believe in destroying what this state was built upon.”

Disbelief in religion means you have “no right” to speak to members of government? Wow. And note the “D” after her name — she’s a member of the party most (but definitely not all!) American atheists lean towards.

Roland, I hear what you’re saying! While I am a Catholic, who’s been taught to look for Jesus “in the distressing disguise of the poor,” I have found myself less and less comfortable with the Democratic Party’s platform, b/c of it’s absolute hostility to anyone who opposes abortion. Rather than embracing with respect the individual convictions American voters may hold, the DP has chosen to reject as stupid, intolerant, bigoted . . . anyone who does not embrace an “anything goes” social agenda. I agree with a lot of the DP’s policies, but I also do not to want to be silenced in my desire to protect the unborn. I am MUCH more tolerant than the DP is. But, I have to say, Obama’s Illinois vote opposing the State version of BAIPA is sickening. I would like to hear him address this at the Forum. Why an infant who survived a late term abortion does not deserve equal protection under the law shocks me. And why such protection violates the rights of the mother who didn’t want the child, or the doctor who performed the abortion eludes me. It’s one thing to hear politicians say, “Personally, I’m opposed . . . but I don’t think we should make abortion illegal.” But it’s another thing entirely to deny any rights to an infant who through no fault of its own was conceived and then had the tenatcity (or is it Audacity?) to survive an abortion attempt. To me, this position is so far outside the range of reasonable that it speaks to a callousness in Obama. Even Clinton opposed BAIPA. Even Kennedy. Even Kerry. I need to hear the man talk about this for myself. Because, he hopes to lead this country, and he may very well be elected President.

    Roland,

I have watched you often on CNN and you are obviously an Obama supporter and a spreader of YOUR religious spirit and faith… that is really NOT good for a political commentator, especially on a NEWS channel.

You are, of course, free to support who ever you care to and hold any religious beliefs you care to; I just don’t want to heear them from you or other commentators on CNN.

The Democrats need not pander to RELIGION or to FAITH BASED folks to win the White House or anything else; what they need to do is to get HONEST.

I don’t believe in pandering to any group, and I guess I pretty firmly believe that people who wear their religious beliefs on the forehead or sleeves are just about as phony and disconnected from reality as you can get.

I really don’t want RELIGION or FAITH BASED people pushing their agenda in politics. Politics is and should remain a secular endeavor, and people like you who constantly want to marry the two do great harm to both.

I had an interesting experience recently: I went to my Honda Dealership to get my Honda Insight, a Hybrid, serviced. The young lady who was taking care of me immediately informed me, just out of the blue, that she was a “Person of Faith,” just recently having been reborn again for about the tenth time. Frankly, I was sort of shocked. After my initial shock wore off I calmly informed her that “We all had our crosses to bear.” She continued on with how great it was to be a person of faith and god loved her and everyone and asked me if I was a person of Faith and if not how come?

At this point I requested that she just get my automobile serviced, as that was why I was there, and leave my Faith or lack of it alone. After some resistance she finally did just that.

While she was doing that I asked to speak to the Service Manager and I informed him of what had just happened, and he was, rightfully so, more shocked than I. The following day, when I came to pick up my automobile the Service Manager had written on the invoice that I should stop by to talk with him; I did. He informed me that the young lady who was pushing her views on Faith was no longer with Honda, and he told me he was sorry for her inappropriate behavior; on top of all of that, he gave me 50% off on the invoice for the trouble this young person of Faith had caused me.

I was deeply satisfied with my Service manager and the way he handled the entire situation.

Now, if only CNN would be gracious enough to reward you with the same fate I would be entirely satisfied with them.

Please stop pushing your religion, your spirits, and your faith on the American people and the Democrats; we don’t need you or your religion to win an election or the White House. In point of fact, the more people like you push your religious agenda on the Democratic Party, the more you alienate many of us and perhaps really hurt the Democratic Party’s chances of winning the White House.

My candidate will not pander to religion, prayer or God to win the White House; to suggest that the Democratic Party do so is very, very sad and morally apprehensible, and extremely inappropriate.

Trust me, I understand religion and I understand politics… America will never be Iraq or Iran…

  • Randy

It appears as though you want groups in the Democratic party to compromise. That’s all fine and dandy and entirely unrealistic. Again, your idealism is unexciting and entirely incorrect.

As long as faith opposes and refuses to compromise on such simple issues like gay marriage/unions, then it will never be truly accepted in such a liberal party.

Faith in this country seems to bring on some kind of unjustified fearful influence from the rest of the world. Hence the division of “religious” and “secular”. Simple rights to happiness, such as gay marriage/unions, should not be denied because of christian psychobabble that perpetuates ignorance, distrust, and arrogance.

  • Greg Ervin

    Roland,

First let me say we don’t always see eye to eye on every issue but on some we agree. I was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, finished my higher education in Berkeley,California, started a family there and relocated back to Houston, Texas nearly 10 years ago.

I am a Gay man in a long-term relationship with children, both biological and adopted. My partner and I are both professionals and we are politically active, aware and educated on the issues. You, as a christian, might call us activist. We just consider ourselves Americans who have and continue to face a great deal of discrimination that others no longer have to face.

Surely you realize that a GREAT deal of that discrimination both eminates and is initiated by the christian community. Fortunately we have a secular government, not a theological one. The job of that secular government is to protect ALL American citizens civil rights. As an American citizen I am entitled to each and every civil right that you and your fellow christians enjoy.

You seem to think that my civil rights are some “agenda”. On the contrary they are simply my civil rights, guaranteed to me by my secular government. Over 1,100 rights, protections and privileges that heterosexual married couples and their children enjoy and take for granted are DENIED to myself and my family because of interference in my government by the christian community.

Such interference is wrong and completely against the premise of your “faith” and our governments guarantees. The christian community seems of late to be more about denying people things than creating equality for all, and that speaks volumes about the quality of the people populating that faith. In what way does this make christians different from say extremist islam?

As an American I am guaranteed freedom of religion, and that includes freedom from it. Freedom of religion does not include the right to interfere in other Americans rights and freedoms.

My partner and I were both supporters of Barack Obama. Then the Donnie McClurkin incident occured. We were taken aback but stood fast in our support. Then the Jeremiah Wright incident happened. O.K. So far we have been attacked by his “faith” community supporters for being Gay, being White and had our country that we love cursed. Doesn’t speak well of the “faith” community to me. Actually they sound like a bunch of hypocrits.

What is sad is that we now are no longer supporting the person who probably could do the most for our nation because of his ties to the extremist black christian community. We are supporting no one at this point and see no change for that in sight. It will be the first presidential election I have not voted in since I gained that right in 1980 unless something changes.

So alienation works both ways, and while I consider my community at war with your community, I remain committed to making the United States a better place for ALL Americans, unlike your community which deals in intolerance and discrimination based upon an ancient superstition.

    Sincerely,
Gregory A. Ervin and Matthew P. Aldridge and Family
    Houston, Texas

You seem to have misunderstood the politics of faith almost entirely. Firstly, the people of faith that the Republican party has been pandering to in order to attract votes and “rally their base” are simply a small minority of largely radical evangelicals who have managed to gain political clout through large donations and media manipulation. It is also evident that the Republican party did ignore quite a few people of faith during their past campaigns if you include Catholics, Muslims, and moderately religious people in your count.
I’m sure I don’t need to inform you that there has been a calculated attempt by the evangelical movement over the past two decades to gain influence over public policy and implement their own ideology in any given administration’s agenda. It seems obvious to me that this is being facilitated by a small fraction of the religious community that has a large amount of money and has been successful at gaining access to politicians, especially during the past 8 years. Many people in the U.S. may have some interest in a particular issue or even several that are impacted by their faith, but you would be wrong to think that that is the overriding factor in how the majority of people vote.
The Democrats have perhaps come to the faith issue late in the game, but that is part of what I liked about the party in the past. They seemed to have their eye squarely on secular issues, and often attempted to draw attention away from “distraction” issues such as abortion and gay marriage, which I think may people see as far less important than the state of our crumbling economy or the potential for an endless war in the Middle East. I also think that if you look at it from a different point of view, the Democratic party’s current attempt to draw religious voters in has been disastrous. For instance, Obama could have avoided the recent scandal regarding his insane preacher Jeremiah Wright almost altogether if he hadn’t been so intent on employing faith-based rhetoric during his campaign. It remains to be seen whether this will have just a small negative effect on his chances to win the election, or a wide ranging one, although the consensus seems to be that no matter what, it will have an overall negative effect.
Hillary Clinton’s attempts to draw peopleof faith to her candidacy are as wooden, transparent, and disingenuous as the rest of the empty platitudes and “misspeaking” that has defined her entire campaign. So on the whole, it seems like her attempt will be rather pointless in retrospect.
The only reason that Democrats could even dream about getting into the “faith game” this time around is because John McCain has had an alienating effect on the far-right conservatives and evangelicals who make up the Republican base, mainly due to his stances on immigration and campaign finance, as well as his (up until recently) lack of engagement with the christian community. As a result, Hillary and Obama came to see these voters as “free agents” who could possibly be drawn into the fold if they upped the level of religious rhetoric in their respective stump speeches, which they have seemingly tried and already failed at.
You can see the Democrats foray into religious politics as whatever you like, but in my mind, it is really nothing more than the most pathetic kind of pandering for a little more than a handful of unimportant votes.

Roland, I’m a European American or I’ll just say white. I have to say, I’m very impressed with your commentaries and I agree 100% with you with the exception of Obama. As a follower of Christ, I believe all issues should be brought forth to the table including social concerns as well as poverty; Abortion and Homosexuality…In my opinion allot of the conservative evangelicals brothers and sisters focus to much on homosexuality and abortion and should also include the other social topics. On the other hand, our African American Brothers and sisters focus to much on the social agenda and poverty and not on the other two. There are two extremes that need to arrive in the middle.

In regards to Obamas former Pasteur, I have to say if the same comments were ever made in my church, I would not only disagree 110 %, I would voice my objection and also leave the church!! In my opinion I would not want to have any association with such a church. God made us all even and the same color blood runs through all of our veins. Christ never preached that one race is above another and as a follower of Christ I believe likewise. I can’t endorse such a person who till this day never completely broke off ties with Wright!!

In regards to what Randy said about “happiness and gay marriage “ I could not disagree more. If it’s all about the lifestyle and so called happiness, why not let polygamy also be legalized? Drug’s produce so called happiness, why not legalize drugs? Just because your lifestyle produces so called happiness, It does not mean that it will produce a happy society…

God Bless the United States of America and may we seek Peace at all times…

    Hi Roland,

I personally believe folks who attend church are in the church that is perfect for them at that particular time in their lives.

I am a recovering Mormon. I say recovering because much of my experience with churches has been missing the message, and piling on the guilt. Once I began to believe God loved me for who I am vs. what others felt I should be and do, the guilt lessened and I began to love myself…in learning how to do that, I began accepting others for who they were vs. who I thought they should be.

I agree you cannot ignore people of faith and religion in politics. However, perhaps part of acceptance is allowing people to just “be.” It is okay with me today that I don’t agree with Mormon views. It is equally okay when people of other faiths don’t agree with my views. I believe when people of faith try to shove their views down my throat as the only “correct” view…well that actually is Pride and Arrogance in my view.

I have to admit, I am extremely troubled by Rev. Wright’s Sermons. I took the challenge and listened to them in the entire context…but still felt troubled. Saddened that a minister is still teaching “White Oppression.” Don’t you think if you view yourself as oppressed and fighting for equal rights you actually are oppressed? Doesn’t it also lead you to question other people’s views and motives? Doesn’t it as well, become racist views against whites?

As a woman, I have experienced discrimination in the workplace, and in pay. However, in learning to love myself, I also learned to ask for what I want and deserve. I have had a gifted life after I decided to decide how much I wanted to earn each year. I am not always successful in rising above the turmoil surrounding me…but that teaches me about commitment and to keep going back to the path of creating my own destiny.

Finally! Why folks want to categorize and put every other person in a box is beyond me! It is assumed that all evangelical believers are also part of the conservative, largely white and Republican, religious right. Not so! It is assumed that all African-Americans are very far left on politics. Not so! Just as the so-called African-American vote is not a monolith, neither is the religious vote.

Obama is my candidate, to be sure, but I will respect any candidate who is forthright and sincere about his or her faith and how it affects their politics/worldview. It will be easy to tell who has “found religion” for the purpose of soliciting votes.

  • Greg

Awesome!!! Mr Roland. Your article was truly an encouragement. It was a Blessing to read your article and see you are Blessed with the truth of God and sharing it. Don’t be discouraged by those in darkness like Randy. The darkness hates being exposed by the light and truth of God.

I will pray that Randy will one day accept Jesus as his savior and ask Jesus to forgive his sin of believing homosexuality and abortion are acceptable when God says they are destestable. Hopefully, Randy’s heart will one day be filled with the Truth of God and Love of Jesus.

……..In other words, ignore the churchgoing folks, and you don’t stand a prayer of winning…….

You’ve gotta be kidding with this, right? This is supposed to be some sort of “new” insight? Oh the poor, oppressed religious folks–and their enormous lobbies in Washington–I’ll bet Obama and Clinton have never even considered them.

I don’t think so. The actual new insight is that people, especially young people, are leaving the church in droves (check with Pew).

But regardless, none of these candidates could be accused of ignoring churchgoers. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Politicians should be able to have their own religious convictions, or none at all, but what they are not allowed to do, is disproportionately represent one religious group over another.

Everyone is supposed to have certain unalienable rights, among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The first gift from God to man was and is: FREEWILL.
God does not force man to worship or even acknowledge His/Her presence and yet we, mere mortals find it necessary for others to fall in line with what we believe as the “Right” path to the kingdom? What huge egos. Religion has become a debate of the intellect therefore has no place in politics. I can profess with words the sincerity of my faith which may fool some of the people however, make no mistake, God sees directly into the heart of man and knows his intentions. I care nothing for what comes out of the mouths of these candidates as far as their religion is concerned but I look keenly at their actions as the only indicator of who they are. By their fruits they are known…. let us stop this nonsense of trying to appease the varying interpretations of God’s will and instead focus intently on the essence of God… ie; the qualities of God such as tolerance, forgiveness, compassion, unconditional love, empathy etc. The rest of it is all man’s efforts to keep distracting and confusing ourselves.

The smartest thing that the framers of the Constitution did was to include a separation of church and state. For more than 200 years, zealous, religious freaks have tried to inch their agendas into our social structures – but it seems to me that in the past 10 years, things have gotten exponentially worse in that regard.

It’s one thing to believe in fairytales, but it takes real hatred to try to force ridiculous notions of holiness into public policy…that goes for pro-lifers, homophobes, and anyone else who confuses reality with immature idealism.

So, in short…the democratic party is a POLITICAL party. They don’t need help or influence from ANY church, or its surrogates. The purpose of our government is to preserve and protect our population…that has NOTHING to do with their spirituality.

Christianity, in particular, is the dumbest thing we’ve ever done to ourselves…and using notions of holiness to prescribe public policy is, again, a hateful thing to do – and hypocritical on behalf of people who call themselves “religious” or “compassionate.”

Sorry Roland…I KNOW your feelings on the matter…I just have a deep-seeded resentment toward religious institutions, and feel they have no place in my government.

Freedom of religion also means I have a right to freedom FROM religion!

My faith in the Lord is bigger than issues of sin. My faith compells me to reach out to the hungry. Bring comfort to those whom are hurting. This faith leads me down a path of love for all mankind. It is this Love that causes me to cover rather than expose those who are struggling with sin. The Word of God says that Love covers a multitude of sin. Most of the evangelicals I hear on television are trying to expose everyone else. But God is a just God. What a man sow, that shall he also reap. For the record, I am a democrat and I am a Christian. Yes, I am a disciple of Christ. How would you know that I’m a disciple of Christ? By the love that I show.

Senator Barack Obama is best qualified for President of the United State because he is God’s choice for America. President Barack Obama is a spiritual appointment by the one true living God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob who is preordained for such a time as this. The world is experiencing preeminence power from high above the earth with inevitable results to win this preliminary and primary appointment. The favor of God is covering and protective Barack Obama for eight years in the White House.

Senator Obama is the best qualified because he exudes a drawing ability with his presence, speech, charisma, and personable charm that is well grounded in education, focus, determination, and drive to successfully finish what he chooses to start. Senator Obama has compassion and feelings for all people with a great acceptance and understanding of racial, cultural, geographical, and economical differences. Senator Obama has proactive world view wisdom and understanding of people and circumstances around the globe. Senator Barack Obama has Christian morals, values, character, restraint, control, and motives rooted in foundation documents like the Declaration of Independence. Barack Obama knows the difference between ideology and values. He says, “Values are faithfully applied to the facts before us, while ideology overrides whatever facts call theory into question.” Senator Barack Obama is smart and professionally transparent, healthfully giving and righteously requiring everyone to look at themselves for the best possible change. President Obama is sooo presidential because he said, “I reject a politics that is based solely on racial identity, gender identity, sexual orientation, or victim-hood generally.” I believe Senator Obama loves everyone and hates no one, because this is his humanitarian responsibility. Senator Obama is not judgmental of other’s different sexual orientation, lifestyle, morals, or values because he believes that is between them and God to change if change is to happen. Senator Obama is the best physically fit, youthfully vigor, and believable for my vote for the President of the United States of America.

I concede this will be more gooblygook (foolishness) to many who can’t understand the spiritual things. That’s ok, you can still vote for Senator Obama in the privacy of your voting booth.

It’s truly amazing that regardless of what the framers of the constitution said relative to church and state a Christian is a Christian 24 hours a day. You are always guided by God’s hand and regardless of whether you are in the Congress or anywhere else one should not be afraid to stand on their faith in God. He’s what gets the job, family, children, wakes us up in the morning. It’s just amazing to me that folk wake up every morning and should know the the alarm clock did not do it.

Democrats should not be afraid to speak of their faith it’s been far too long ignored. However, we have the other extreme those who profess Christ but use him for political gain only.

One’s actions will always reflect a Christian’s heart. You don’t need a sign on your back. We must never be ashamed of our faith! Actions speak louder thank words but it’s great to hear the candidates express their faith because you never know who will be touched as a result. Those who are not sincere will answer to God.

Keep up the great work on CNN you have really been instrumental in bringing CNN to change its format to reflect key issues facing America and addressing issues that have never been addressed prior especially not as we began to see them recently.

I have got to do some Bible research on the divine revelation in sleep, because there is nothing like a good night sleep toward putting things in the proper perspective.

There is a perpetrator here on Mr. Martin’s blog who is pretending to be a white man who is actually an “angry black man.” This man is like Mr. Keys who ran against Barack Obama for Senator a while back. He is well educated from some very prominent institution like Harvard. However, this perp is angry at his own race of black people. He has difficulty identifying with the black culture, because he grew up around predominantly the European culture whom was always allowed to say whatever they wanted without consequences. This man has our black skin tone for not being fully accepted by “whitty” as HE calls them. He is angry with his own race and with others due to being lost in no-man’s land. If you listen carefully he speaks with the colloquialisms of his culture like “by bad” if I am wrong. This “angry black man” with negative motives critiques the words of every blogger to elicit the same anger he feels. He can’t fully understand what we are saying about our cultural experiences that sound like coded dialogue to him. This man really has no personal culture relationship experiences to draw from that loved him or others unconditionally. It is our civic blogger Christian duty here today to love this man in spite of his angry tone that hides his need for our compassionate care.

Come on Mr. W. Johnson, your name even tells the story. Are you really Willy Johnson?

    However, I still love you!

    Roland S. Martin,

I blame you and all your followers for making Tavis Smiley quit the “Tom Joyner Morning Show”. You have and always will be a Hater of Tavis Smiley. Every morning you indirectly took hits at the Brother just because Tavis didn’t worship Senator Obama the way you do.

I hope your glad, maybe Tom will give you the job, lol. Roland you throw Bricks then hide your hands, damn you ;-(

    RENEE – I….think….I….love you too!

As I look on at the progress of this election, I am realizing how delicate the nature of White People. The things that are said in the news and at rallys are said in the tones to what is real!

The media is predominately white and do not understand or are not use to hearing the TRUTH about themselves or disrespectful how SOMEONE else see the world. DStop blaming and really learn how other people feel and think. I want the truth!!

  • Madeline

If Hillary could hear me talk to her, she would stop running for president. She would not make a good president! She comes off as the “dreamer”, it will be allright, tommorow. She has lied to the people more time than enough, which is only once.

“We” now are talking in, and talking to, the white world. Our advisaries do not know what we mean nor why we mean what we say. So “we have to talk baby talk to them and deliver the same intended message, (which makes us still work harder than “they” do).

I feel like the “grown-ups” are over eighteen, but not adults, yew

  • HUGgy bear

    Hiram:

For as long as you speak TRUTH you are not alone, though it may seem that way. Please remember that always.

By the grace of GOD ALMIGHTY Brother Tavis will be alright. Maybe it is TIME for Brother Tavis to go to a HIGHER SPIRITUAL LEVEL. Let the WILL of The ALMIGHTY GOD be done.

Pray for Brother Roland; I am becoming very concerned about him. PRIDE goes before a FALL. “WHATSOEVER A MAN SOWETH, THAT SHALL HE ALSO REAP.”

    Be blessed.

Saturday, April 12, 2008 (reprint from Cox news service)

ATLANTA — Barack Obama spent a lot of political energy recently explaining his faith because of the hubbub over controversial comments by his pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
He may have a chance to talk about those issues at length Sunday.

His competitor for the Democratic presidential nomination, Hillary Clinton, may get a chance to ratchet up the heat.

The two will field questions in a nationally televised forum on faith, values and issues such as feeding the hungry.

The organizing group, Faith in Public Life, which includes Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders, also invited Republican candidate John McCain. He declined, citing a scheduling conflict.

“It would have been more important if McCain had decided to participate,” said David Gushee, a forum organizer and professor of Christian ethics at Mercer University in Macon, Ga.
But it will still have an impact on the presidential election, he said.
Messiah College, an evangelical Christian institution near Harrisburg, Pa., is the host site.
Obama and Clinton hope to score points before the Democratic primary April 22.

McCain may be ducking and hoping to shore up support of the faithful nearer the November election, but there is a risk in missing the forum, said Michael Lindsay, a Rice University professor and author of Faith in the Halls of Power: How Evangelicals Joined the American Elite.
Votes from big segments of evangelicals and Catholics appear up for grabs.
“Pennsylvania is a state where conservative Catholics and Protestants are significant swing voters,” Lindsay said. “I think there is a definite segment of the evangelical vote who is trying to make up their minds, so it may be politically unwise. But religion is not McCain’s strong suit, so it is not surprising he is trying to stay under the radar.”

McCain has been less effusive about his faith than the Democrats. He feuded with high-profile conservative Christians such as the late Rev. Jerry Falwell in 2004, and some evangelicals with national followings, such as James Dobson of Focus on the Family, have snubbed him this time.
A theme emerging in the 2008 campaign is that Democrats are more comfortable talking about their faith than McCain, said Gushee, who wrote The Future of Faith in American Politics: the Public Witness of the Evangelical Center.

That is a change from 2004 when President Bush was at ease and John Kerry was the one who seemed stilted when talking about how religion influenced them.
Gushee said the forum members wanted to broaden the discussion beyond the gay marriage and abortion fights that dominated the religion culture wars of the 1980s and 1990s. They are including issues now attracting concern from the faithful, such as global warming, poverty, genocide in Darfur and the torture of prisoners.

The Rev. Larry Snyder, head of Catholic Charities USA and another forum member, said they also wanted people from all the major religions and denominations to take part in the conversation.
“I think people of faith are realizing that if we come together and act out of common values, we can have more of an impact,” he said
    …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
To those who want to denounce Barack Obama for his association with Reverend Wright, the Weather Underground and who knows what else in the future:……..My question to you is, why is Senator McCain avoiding this opportunity?

This is an opportunity for him to tell the American people what his views are on faith- based issues. This is an opportunity for him to contrast the differences between Senators Obama, Clinton and himself.

I would like to think that some of McCain’s supporters- those who have suggested that Obama’s relationship with his pastor influenced his beliefs, would applaud the opportunity to see all three candidates together making their case for their beliefs yet they are silent on this issue and it makes me question their sincerity towards the church and faith-based issues

It is time for our church leadership to do some legal legwork to connect WITH A GOOD ATTORNEY the young lady who lost her job at that Honda Dealership! The fact that an individual LOST THERE JOB because they mentioned to a customer how great they felt as a Christian is discrimination. Insult to injury in the loosing of her financial employment support is that the complaining customer was rewarded with a 50% discount, and jobs like Honda Dealerships today give less and 0.5% annual increases to there employees. Who is the young lady who lost her job because she is a Christian and talks about, “Now faith is…?” Where is this Honda Dealership with the misinformed manager who fires people because they are talking Christians? What legal representation will wake-up, step-up and speak-up on behalf of THIS ONE YOUNG LADY to be compensation for the discriminatory injustices done to her as a productive citizen of the United States. When will we Americans learn that Believers are the majority group with backbone power from above and stop acting like frightened faithless narrow-minded minority? How will they know we are Christians, but by our love for one another?

You can reject my love, but my faith (religion) is a protected class! – John Wilson says… I say this is why we don’t have prayer is our school today, and they are all plagued with destructive violence. One overlooked injustice is injustice everywhere. Somebody smart said that! Can you answer ALL THIS? — In keeping to the true context to then do SOMETHING!

    At least, vote for Obama!

CNN TV & Radio Media Hosts,

Please do not give Senator McCain a PASS on stubbing your forum. GO AFTER HIM and his disconnect with the people’s questions for his possible USA decisions based on what he believes. What does McCain believe about compassion, values, and morals in politics through faith? My personal list would include:

    • Abortion Laws or Choices
    • Gay Marriage Laws or Choices
    • Family & Faith Laws or Choices
    • Working Women/Wives Laws or Choices
    • Female Pastors Equal Opportunity Laws
    • Religion in Leadership Law or Choice
    • Christianity in America Laws or Choices
    • Atheism in the USA Laws or Choices
    • Multiple Belief Tolerance Laws or Choices
    • Morals & Values in Politics Laws or Choices
    • Equal Opportunity (pay, education, work, housing, etc.) Laws or Choices

The voters are angry and bitter with the status quo Bush & Clinton politics! We want to turn the page and change what is not working. However, we want to turn the page back to reinstitute what did work in the past like prayer is our public schools to calm down the current violent atmosphere. The simple ANSWER to ALL our city limit community ills today is MORE JOBS that keep up with the increasing economy for men, women, and working age children.

    Roland,

I enjoyed the foum tonight, especially Obama’s part. I think Hillary is phony at time. Anyway, I was not surprised to see Campbell Brown and King try to milk the “bitter” commnets story but it won’t work. People are not going to be distracted this time.

    PS

I notied John King said Obama was talking about “whiite” working class. Obama never mentioned “white” working class , he never injected race at all. I think King is carrying water for McCain.

  • Margarita

    Dear Mr. Martin,

As a small town mayor’s wife, ethnic groups are not the only people taking advantage of public assistance programs. More white, poor and middle classed people take advantage of anything that is offered free by the government than the Hispanics. The majority of Hispanics in this county work two and three jobs per household, by necessity. That does not even take into account the many wealthy ranchers and farmers who take advantage of every USDA rural/free money that is offered either. One could argue that many of them are wealthy because they have been gifted lots of free money through so-called ‘subsidy based’ programs. They are also the majority of people who employ so many of the illegal aliens in this county and the majority of them are Republicans, by the way.

Obama did not say one thing wrong. He spoke the truth. Those of you that have read my many posts on this site will remember that I have been speaking to some of the same issues of disgust in our rural society. Disgust? Disenfranchisement? Disengagement? Bitter? Hell, yes we are!

How many times have I said that our government, state and federal, give us little more than lip service. Most of the assistance rungs on the ladder are so high for our little communities to reach that they are completely out of reach most of the time. As a democrat, I have watched the state party and the DNC come into this region as true political elitists and promise us the moon and the stars. For 28 years, they have allowed the GOP to control Congressional District 1 in New Mexico. Why, because the elite of the Dems made out good regardless of the GOP in the seat. When politicians claim that they care about rural areas, I say “Bologne!” Change is the last hope that small town America has. The Dems have ignored small town America for the last 25 years and now they claim to care? I don’t know whether to cry or laugh.

How disingenous of Clinton to call Obama an elitist. Both her and McCain are multimillionaires, and if America buys this bulls–t, we do get what we deserve. How sad.

We cling to our faith because we have had no other choice. We have learned that our Government, Dems and GOP and so many like Clinton and McCain lie to us time and time again, so how in the world could we place our confidence in someone the likes of her or McCain? The gleeful manner in which the MSM has jumped on this is truly despicable and goes to some of my earlier views that they truly do not want someone like Obama to win and clean up our government. If he were actually successful, the pig trough of greed would dry up and remember the media makes so much more money as long as we are divided. Divided is what they want and candidates like Clinton and McCain are what the culture of corruption wants. I pray that Obama prevails and that the people of America are smart enough to see this horrible manipulation.

My God in Heaven, to compare a poor choice of words to outright lies and a long history of treachery to the working class of America is unfathomable to me. Ultimately if white America is truly as racist and stupid as the media, Clinton and McCain hopes, we are truly doomed. Is he guilty of being a city slicker with little or no understanding of rural life? Maybe, but so what. Is that his biggest crime and now the media jumps on to it like flies on horseshit? Obviously. He on the other hand, is not out of touch with the overlapping foundation of concerns and frustrations in small town America, because those things are shared by working Americans everywhere.

Please forgive the tone of my comments. Finally rural America is getting attention, but from my view, Clinton, McCain and the media are attempting to trivialize the seriousness of the larger problems. There are approximately 60 Million people living in rural America and 30% of that population produces a large percentage of the world’s food supply and our importance to the strength of America is very important. If rural America is ignored and marginalized, we are in real trouble as a nation. The crumbling or non-existent infrastructure of rural areas is not dissimilar to the struggles and challenges that were exposed in the Katrina tragedy. These challenges are the things that we must face as a nation that puts people and prinicples ahead of greed. Greed is the real enemy of us all and Indifference and Ignorance are its helpmates.

Thank you for trying to be fair and even on the issues. I watched the Compassion Forum tonight and I could not help but notice that John King and Campbell Brown are so glib and almost gleeful at this controversy. God Bless you for your efforts in bringing faith and spirituality into the discussion.

In reference to the bitter committ…

This is Bill Clinton in the Sunday Los Angeles Times in 1991 referring to Geroge HW Bush:

“You know, he [Bush] wants to divide us over race. I’m from the South. I understand this. This quota deal they’re gonna pull in the next election is the same old scam they’ve been pulling on us for decade after decade after decade. When their economic policies fail, when the country’s coming apart rather than coming together, what do they do? They find the most economically insecure white men and scare the living daylights out of them. They know if they can keep us looking at each other across a racial divide, if I can look at Bobby Rush and think, Bobby wants my job, my promotion, then neither of us can look at George Bush and say, ‘What happened to everybody’s job? What happened to everybody’s income? What … have … you … done … to … our … country?’”

    Roland,

What truly bothers me is that religious folks spend more time engaging in bitter intellectual debates about the theology of God and less time nurturing and cultivating the mind-set that incorporates the qualities of God. That is our problem with religion…. the need to be right with our version of who or what God is as opposed to the need to reflect the nature of God. If our entire focus were on living the essence of unconditional love, compassion, kindness, tolerance, forgiveness etc, then we really wouldn’t care who is a Christian, Jew, Hindu, Muslim, atheist or whatever, as we would all be reflecting the “Image” of God. We get so blinded by the “hype” and the talk ignoring that God sees the heart of man, not his rhetoric. Judge a man by his works, the way he has lived his entire life, as talk is cheap especially in the political arena. If we paid more attention to our own internal and personal relationship with the Divine and stop being so concerned with what we perceive as others’ lack of religious zeal, we would be far more evolved in our understanding and discernment of God’s will. We should stop trying to play GOD and respect that God himself/Herself greatest gift to mankind is FREEWILL ~~

    Dear W Johnson,

It matters not whether man believes in the existence of God/The Source/The Force to make Him/Her/It real. The I AM is beyond man’s intellectual and mental comprehension, so for his limited mental capacity to grasp at least some element of the nature of the Divine, man has created his own “personal” version of God… with varying levels of interpretations and understanding. Because it is in man’s nature to personalize everything instead of living the Universal One-ness, hence the attempt at possession and ownership of the nature of God….
Thankfully, the Source is beyond man’s petty intellectual, small ego perceptions and remains the All-inclusive, OM-niscient, Om-nipresent, Om-nipotent Source … that sustains life….

The republicans want Obam’s god , guns, and immigration comments to hurt him in the general election. They will pull the religion and race card…………Scarborough said that Obama called people “bigots” b/c they are “bitter” over immigration and the GOP will use it against him. HA!!

Rick Santorum on the Hugh Hewitt Show:

John McCain was the guy who was working with Ted Kennedy to drive it down our throats, and lectured us repeatedly about how xenophobic we were, lectured us, us being the Republican conference,…because having come from Arizona, knowing the strength of the Hispanic community, that we were going to be seen as racists,

Looks like McCain is the one calling people racist b/c of their anti-immgration views, will Lou Dobbs be offended by that? I hope the dems learn how to counterattack on this one.

Man created God, what a stupid statement. I guess man created the Earth, Space and other Planets as well? Man lives then he dies, then he lives again, however, some of you were better off not living at all.

My beef is this. If anyone says anything nonfavorable about Senator Barack “The Messiah” Obama that person is labeled a Hater, Racists, or Evil Doer. Senator Obama is for the ELITE. Bottom Line!

Its does not matter if he grew up Poor, Middle, or Upper Crust, what matters is that Sen. Obama is in a position of power and uses his power to romance the ELITE of which he’s a Newly Member (Boule).

Here’s the deal, Black Folks worship Obama as “The Second Coming”, he know we do thats why he (Senator Obama) pisses on everything we create, develop, or process. Where was Obama as it relates to (Jena 6, State of the Black Union, Dr. Kings Anniversary in Memphis)?

He was no where to be found, always giving Black Folks the same lame excuse “Hey guys I’m on the Campaign Trail – Holla back”, lol. And we Black Folks except whatever excuse Obama gives us, because we worship him as “The Christ”.

However, Mr. Obama found time to attend MSNBC Chris Matthews College Tour, but could not find the time to attend (Jena 6 Events, State of the Black Union, Dr. Kings Death Anniversary). To all you Stupid, Foolish, Ignorant Blacks out there who thinks its OK for the Senator from Illinois to continue to diss Black Folks, I say shame on you.

Wake-up you’re being taken for a FOOL. Then again you wont wake up because “The god of this World” who is Satan has blinded your eyeys, therefore you think Politricks is about The Rights of Citizens, when its really about the Elite controlling what you hear, watch, think, and eat MK ULTRA, lol.

While you’re at the Ball Game with your Children or somewhere “Passing Time” those guys (Politicians) are on Capitol Hill passing Laws that you never heard of. Look beneath the radar, nothing is never what it seems, everything has dual meanings. ORDO AB CHAO.

In response to your question, Hiram seems very upset to me. He seems to be ‘angry’ about something he believes to be true. Being angry about something does not necessarily mean that one is a “HATER” of some human being. It is sad that Hiram is expressing his anger in such a language. At least he is not somewhere shooting at other people. Thanks be to GOD ALMIGHTY for that.

If you care at all about his (maybe her, who knows) mental health, then may I suggest that you simply ignore his comments. You would not like to drive him ‘crazy’, would you?

    Hiram –

There is NO WAY to know if there is ONE god, MANY gods or NO god.

It ALL comes down to faith.

Does it really make ANY difference at all?! NO!!!!!

Glad to see you got a “YOU”RE”!! Keep up the great work, Hiram!!

  • W Johnson

HUGgy bear – I’ll take your advice.

I’m sure Hiram is a good person and means well.

  • KSH

In my church I have a belief that all of us are God’s children, doesn’t matter if we believe or not. It’s hard for me to exclude anyone from the love of my God. I don’t think that talking about your faith should be a bad thing and I don’t think talking about your non-faith is a bad thing. I think that we are all in the world together and as a Christian person it is my duty to be honest, be faithful and be loyal to the Word of God and that means loving and understanding people that are not like me. I am part of a African-American Southern Baptist Church and my pastor has talked about plenty of things that he thinks is wrong – but one thing he ALWAYS says is that we have to love people just like Jesus did, unconditionally and we have to treat people as people. And even in my political life I have faith that Gos has a way of working things out no matter what.

  • KSH

    Hiram says:
My beef is this. If anyone says anything nonfavorable about Senator Barack “The Messiah” Obama that person is labeled a Hater, Racists, or Evil Doer. Senator Obama is for the ELITE. Bottom Line!

My beef is that any Black person that is voting for Obama is a blind fool with no sense of opinion or thought. It’s like we are robots b/c we are voting for him. You can’t possibly believe that millions of people have been inserted with mechanical chips that program us to vote for Obama. Can’t I just vote for Obama just like I voted for Clinton twice? No one was calling me a robot then. We all have beefs.

I’m thrilled that Barack recognizes how frustrated so many of us are by the politics of fear and cynicism we’ve seen these past seven years! But what really sets him apart is that he’s not afraid to speak the truth and say what’s not supposed to be spoken – that yes, we can love our country but also be frustrated with it’s direction and leadership.

  • http://deleted nerakami

There is no discord between God and science. Science is slowly proving the existence of the Creator/God. Science proves that everything in existence is energy…each human being is a mass of vibrating electro-magnetic energy… rocks contain a denser energy mass than say humans do whose vibration is faster therefore, lighter. Pure, unconditional love = God, is the highest vibration of energy there is and the sustaining Source of existence. Our ONE-ness is the recognition that (created in His image…) we all were created from and are, the very same energy that is God however, the transformative quality of this energy plus Freewill, allow us to choose how we apply our energy. Negative energy is of lower energetic vibration and becomes destructive because we are further away from our inherent, core God/Love vibration. We cannot discern the truth about ourselves and ultimately God, by engaging in theological or theoretical religious discourses. The Truth has been inscribed in our hearts and if we are able to “be still and know”, get out of the head (by learning to distance our true selves from the mental chatter) within this silence Divine wisdom reveals itself to us. Seek and ye shall find speaks not of material things, but of the Truth within each of us which cannot be attained via external means but by internal reflections. Similarly, God looks at our hearts therefore, to know Him/Her that’s exactly where we need to go…. within our hearts, which is cultivating and living the nature of unconditional Love. Everything else is merely a distraction.

  • KSH

    ROLAND….PLEASE EXPOSE THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW ! Hillary’s Religion (cult?) ‘THE FAMILY’ Very Scary !
Prays To Jesus For The Elite To Rule The World !

(Where’s The Media On This ?????)

The media has repeatedly aired the short clips of Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s rhetoric in attempt to discredit and smear Barack Obama. But what’s even more interesting is the fact that the media never discusses Hillary Clinton’s religion, which is extremely telling and even frightening. A closer look into her ‘religion’ gives one a clearer picture of why she is the way she is.In a recent article by Steven Brandt many truths about Hillary’s religion, called ‘ The Family’ will make you shudder. The question is….where’s the media on this one ?

Brandt writes, “You don’t choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend.” said Hillary Clinton, to reporters and editors of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Tuesday the 25th. This is an interesting choice of words, since — while we mostly hear about her Methodist upbringing — Hillary Clinton has chosen to associate herself with The Family (also known as the Fellowship), a very conservative, fundamentalist organization started by Abraham Vereide…

“…an immigrant preacher who in 1935 organized a small group of businessmen sympathetic to European fascism, fusing the Far Right with his own polite but authoritarian faith. From that core, Vereide built an international network of fundamentalists who spoke the language of establishment power, a “family” that thrives to this day. In public, they host prayer breakfasts; in private they preach a gospel of “biblical capitalism,” military might, and American empire. Citing Hitler, Lenin, and Mao, Doug Coe, the Family’s current leader, declares, “We work with power where we can, build new power where we can’t.”

This quote is taken from the book on The Family by the same name which will be published in May… a book which claims to

“…dramatically challenge conventional wisdom about American fundamentalism, revealing its crucial role in the unraveling of the New Deal, the waging of the Cold War, and the no-holds-barred economics of globalization. The question Sharlet believes we must ask is not “What do fundamentalists want?” but “What have they already done?”

A long article was written about Hillary Clinton’s participation in this organization last September in Mother Jones, and The Family, itself, was the subject of an extensive article in Harper’s in March of 2003. And on March 21st, The Nation published an article on Hillary and The Family by Barbara Ehrenreich that was published on The Huffington Post and CBS News’ web site.

The Family avoids the word Christian but worships Jesus, though not the Jesus who promised the earth to the “meek.” They believe that, in mass societies, it’s only the elites who matter, the political leaders who can build God’s “dominion” on earth. Insofar as The Family has a consistent philosophy, it’s all about power – cultivating it, building it and networking it together into ever-stronger units, or “cells.”…wrote Ms.Ehrenreich.

Is it possible that Hillary’s participation in this fundamentalist group — which apparently preaches the “gospel of military might” — would help explain her vote in favor of authorizing President Bush to attack Iraq? Is it possible her pro-NAFTA stance during her husband’s administration comes from its embrace of “the no-holds-barred economics of globalization”? Is it possible that the sense some get that Hillary feels entitled to be president comes in part from this group’s belief that “it’s only the elites who matter”?
I encourage any reporter covering Hillary’s campaign to ask her about all this.

At a time when so many people are wondering what sort of effect the Rev. Wright’s sermons may have had on Barack Obama, I think it’s only fair to ask what sort of effect The Family’s fundamentalist mission has had – and continues to have – on Hillary Clinton. We know that George Bush engages in truly fundamentalist thinking. There is no person or new information capable of challenging his belief that what he already knows is right. Is Hillary Clinton like this in some way? I am not sure.

But the opinion I have formed from this is that – while Hillary Clinton may be considered a Liberal by many – on the inside she is a deeply Conservative person… possibly as close to being a Republican today as she was when she was a young woman supporting Senator Goldwater. This helps explain, to me, why she and John McCain are such good friends. They are both drawn to the use of military power and free market capitalism… and to taking money from lobbyists. The other opinion I have formed is that those who say there are no policy differences between Hillary and Barack haven’t taken into account how their religious differences might impact the policies they would actually seek to implement as president.
    (end of article)

So now a few things make more sense about Hillary. In review, she’s in a kinda power-hungry cult which is actually run by her fellow Republicans which she is secretly one of ! It also makes sense why she could care less about detroying the Democratic Party. Also, beware of her claim to work toward ending the Iraq war. That is another great lie that she is telling. If you listen to her claims she commonly repeats ‘ I will start getting troops out within my first 60 days ‘…..How many ? 3….1000…10,000 ? Don’t be fooled. Hillary has no desire to end the war. She’ll bring 5 troops home then say that she kept her word.

The media should be called out for not exposing this cult. Problem is, they would also be revealing the truths about their fellow Republican’s plan and prayers to ‘rule the world’ by any means. So it’s up to us, regular Americans like you and I, to help spread the truth in spite of the media…..For The Re-Birth of America !

    ROLAND….PLEASE EXPOSE THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“God himself/Herself greatest gift to mankind is FREEWILL” = NO, NO, NO!!!

YES, YES, YES = God’s greatest gift to mankind is Himself — LOVE. God is love and whoever loves is of God with God in them and they have the revealed character of God by God. God sooo LOVED the world that He gave His only begotten son (Jesus Christ)…

    1 John 3:16-18
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”

    1 John 4:8
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

    1 John 4:16-21
“God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. 20 If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.”

    Roland,

i’m glad that you put Hiram and W Johnson in their places. somethings Hiram said i agree with and somethings i dont, however, W Johnson was a riot as well.

W Johnson i do think that your Racists comments are not welcome nor Hiram’s. Hiram said something that made me think, he asked why Obama didn’t attend any Black Major Events (State of the Black Union, Jena 6, or King’s Anniversary) that was a good question, especially since Obama did attend MSNBC College Tour.

in the end you both (Hiram & W Johnson) should blog under another name, because you both brought shame to yourselves ;-)

  • http://deleted nerakami

Being created in the image of God, is not a gift. It is who and what we are… And yes, God is Love, therefore the inherent, core element of what we are created from, and what we are… is, LOVE. So Love, is not a gift to us, it is what we are.

And yes, Jesus was a gift to mankind because we had become so disconnected from our Divine nature, that the Creator sent us a gift to lead us back home…. back to ourselves, back to our hearts… back to love = God.

It is clear from your writings Hiram that there is a lot of internal turmoil. I don’t know what you experiences have been through but all too easily, the rest of us become dismissive of negative energy. Love conquers all… whether we intellectually can understand how it works or not. I send you… love and ask the Universal Light to guide you through whatever bad feelings you are experiencing.

  • http://www.biblestudygroup888.info RENEE

I was really hoping that you all wouldn’t make me go there. However, you give me no choice. I got to go to the book – The Good Book! The book is good because in summary IT IS GOD as John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD.” The good book is the manifestation of “He” who started the beginning of time and created everything in His time as John 1:2-3 says, “He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” The good book is alive and our guiding light to do right as John 1:4 says, “In him was life, and that life was the light of men.” However, the good book’s light is so bright it paralyzes and blinds in the darkness of His world as John 1:5 says, “The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.”

The good book is to be taken in its simplest literal contextual content as the lowest common denominator for us all as the following states.

    Hebrews 2:8-18
“Now when it says “all things,” it means nothing is left out. But we have not yet seen all of this happen. What we do see is Jesus, who “for a little while was made lower than the angels” and now is “crowned with glory and honor” because he suffered death for us. Yes, by God’s grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone in all the world. And it was only right that God — who made everything and for whom everything was made — should bring his many children into glory. Through the suffering of Jesus, God made him a perfect leader, one fit to bring them into their salvation. So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters. For he said to God, “I will declare the wonder of your name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise you among all your people.” He also said, “I will put my trust in him.” And in the same context he said, “Here I am — together with the children God has given me.” Because God’s children are human beings — made of flesh and blood — Jesus also became flesh and blood by being born in human form. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the Devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he deliver those who have lived all their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. We all know that Jesus came to help the descendants of Abraham, not to help the angels. Therefore, it was necessary for Jesus to be in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. He then could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people. Since he himself has gone through suffering and temptation, he is able to help us when we are being tempted.”

Hint – Hint! What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.

Suggestion! Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

    Correct Answer = Hebrews 11:1 / SUBSTANCE + EVIDENCE >

Romans 1:8 ~ Faith is being reported all over the world.
Romans 14:1 ~ Faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters.
Romans 14:23 ~ Everything that does not come from faith is sin.
1 Corinthians 15:17 ~ And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile.
2 Thessalonians 1:3 ~ Faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing.

IT’S OK FOR PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFULS, you, and me TO TAKE NOTES!

  • HUGgy bear

“The book is good because in summary IT IS GOD…” WOW! What an INTERPRETATION of John1:1!

As far as I am concerned, “the book” is neither MY CREATOR, nor a manifestation of MY CREATOR.

A book that refers to the people on an island, who showed Paul hospitality when he was shipwrecked, as “BABARIANS”, while those who were trying to Kill him for preaching CRIST are considered to be “CIVILIZED”, as good as such a book may be can never be my GOD.

NOTE: If GOD ALMIGHTY allows, I can burn-up “the book”, but I can NEVER be able to burn-up GOD ALMIGHTY!

“I AM THE WAY”. The way of CHRIST is not a RELIGION. “POLITICS” has no place in ‘THE WAY OF CHRIST’; but there is “POLITICS” in RELIGION.

Having seen ‘The Nature Of Politics’ displayed on National Television for all to see, is this the DIVINE NATURE of CHRIST? If not, whose nature is it? The Nature Of Chris, who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul.

Hillary says Obama should get out of the “KITCHEN” if he cannot stand the “HEAT”. Well, I hope she will be able to withstand “THE HEAT OF THE FIRE FROM ABOVE” which GOD ALMIGHTY will use to PURGE This LAND. Maybe this is the spiritual the reason why the media and others are focusing more on Brother Jeremiah Wright’s statements than the economic and other issues.

I am not going to cry anymore. Let Thy WILL be done O GOD, MOST HIGH.

WHY IS THE MEDIA HIDING THE TRUTH ABOUT HILLARY’S SECRET RELIGION (CULT ?)

It was obvious as one would watch the ‘coverage’ of the war that all of the cable news networks were working for the Bush Regime. The ONLY place we as Americans could attempt to gather some truth was through C-Span, Huff and a few other sites which would show all of the networks to be actually misleading America. Now, with as simple a tool as Google, Americans can find out information that the networks won’t give. Hillary’s secret religion (cult) known as ‘The Family’ is a D.C. based group of the richest folks in America who ‘pray to Jesus for the elite to rule the world’ . The fact that there has been absolutely no mention of her cult leads one to believe that the higher-ups at the networks (and other big corporations) are a part of ‘The Family’…..and the plan to rule the world. I know…. it sounds far fetched. You can find a great list of links regarding ‘The Family’ at http://www.Blacks4Barack.org. Truthtellers like Huffington, The Nation, Mother Jones and others have all done recent stories about ‘The Family’….but where’s CNN, MSNBC, Fox or the gang. They all know that there’s an internet rumbling going on right now about this cult. But….no mention. Do the research yourselves….check into ‘The Family’….once you do….you’ll see that it is not only scary….BUT IT MUST BE STOPPED !!!!!!!!!!!!!! LEARN/SHARE !!!!!

Sometimes the Ungodly rule for years until God’s true people get their acts together and conquer. The Governments of Men only have a snapshot of the True Governing Power of God, therefore no Man Controlled Government has been free from Sin!

The Great Moses disobeyed God, thus he was not allowed to enter the Promised Land. King David’s Governement was not free from Sin (Death of Uriah). King Solomon’s Government was not free from Sin (Messy Sex Life), so why do we expect Political Leaders to tell us the truth and not lie, when history proves other-wise?

Seems you don’t differentiate between being religious and being a good person.

I may not meet your definitions. I am Roman Catholic, go to church most Sundays, my family is involved in the church and our son is receiving his first Holy Communion a week from Saturday.

I like to look at the facts. The bible was written by men. You may say inspired by God, but it is ALL based on what you choose to believe. There is no way to KNOW if there is one god, many gods, no god or three gods in one.

That there is a universe does not make sense to me because it begs the question, why is there a universe when logic seems to indicate there should be nothing. The easy answer is god, but that is too easy.

Why is there life when death is so much easier? Humans do get emotional joy from life, although many have very hard lives. What lower life gets any joy from life? For most life isn’t it an endless struggle between finding enough to eat to survive while trying not to be eaten?

So far, other than “god” I know of no answers to these questions.

But, here we are. Life seems to be better for all when we lead good lives. What a good life is depends on the person. To me, a good life is to be good to my wife and son, be good to my family, be good to my community and be good to the world I come in contact with. Do you need me to define “good”?

This does not mean giving handouts or more than a fair chance. I have never been given one and I don’t want one. I work my butt off at work because that is what I am paid to do and it provides a good life for me and my family.

I hurt no one that does not hurt me, but I will crushingly defend myself and my family against anyone who tries to hurt us in anyway – in part to discourage anyone from trying to hurt us again.

Ever hear of a recording called Lead the Field? It can be purchased on Ebay for about $6 or so. It is pretty much along those lines that I choose to lead my life.

You may not call it religious, but I do and I call it leading a good life.

    Best regards!

    W. Johnson,

Thank you for responding to my questions and telling us what you believe. We have so much in common in having made some precise choices in how we would make our family and personal life the best we can. We have both chosen to attend church within the Christian religion. We have both made a commitment to defend our self and family without fear of anyone who would threaten our well being. We have both chosen to live good with your good being defined as you see it and my good basted on how the Bible defines it. We both agree that good is good for everyone in having enough of what is needed by hard work, success, perseverance, and achievement.

However, W. Johnson, sir will tell us what you believe about life after death? What happens to your way of life when you die after living good? You have said that you follow the Catholic Church theology of “good works” with your church attendance. Do you also subscribe to the Catholic Church belief in entering Purgatory first after you die before being prayed out and on into Heaven by the living who loved you while you lived. Please sir say-on about your belief in the existence of Heaven and Hell. If you don’t know for sure if there is a god, then I am sure you don’t know if there is a devil. What makes you and others choose to live good, and what makes other choose to live bad? Is your good, good enough to consider the possibility of a guarantee of eternal life?

Please forgive me if anything I have said is not clear. I am quite exhausted after another exceptionally busy 11-hour day of managerial work and responsibility for about 200 people. . The one small difference between you and me is I can’t be good without following the way of Christ through studying the Bible.

I like your style of questions Mr. W. Johnson that generating good thoughtful belief dialogue. Please speak about Heaven and Hell and its existence.

    W Johnson:

Although I do not like going back and forth with anyone, I would like to make this statement: Just as the crabs cannot get out of the barrel by themselves unless the owner of the barrel decides to take them out, so Hiram cannot get out of the “gutter” that you put him in by himself.

But my GOD, The ALMIGHTY, who is able and is above all, will soon get him out of the “gutter” if Hiram wants to come out.

    I don’t think I said I followed the Catholic Church’s theology to the “T”.

I know the Church has been involved in bad but I have never had anything but great experiences with the Catholic Church. I think there is bad in everything if you want to find it.

As far as Heaven and Hell and Purgatory – I’m not sure exactly what the church teaches these days.

As I have written, I like facts. There is no way to know if there really is a Heaven and Hell, it comes down to belief. That there is a universe seems to make no sense, but it is here. There is life when not to be life seems to make more sense. This does not, to me, necessarily mean there is a God who is all powerful and creates a Heaven and Hell, but it certainly makes it possible. To me, as possible as there NOT being a Heaven and Hell.

I have a hard time believing an all loving God could create something as awful as a Hell, but then what else do you do with a Hitler and others through history who have been as bad or worse than him?

I don’t believe anything has ever been found that Jesus actually wrote. All we know about him are what others wrote about him. However, I find it hard to believe that so many would have written about the good he did if he was not actually a very good person.

    Best regards
    W Johnson

Somebody tell me where our civil rights leaders are (Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton).
They have been pretty quiet thru this whole process with Obama. Actually I am pretty amazed at the lack of our black leaders support. I’m not saying that as an African American that you should vote for Obama, but why tare him down like the BET founder and like some other black leaders are doing. And I don’t know a lot about the law but it seems to me that the slander that Hillary and the news reporters are doing against Obama is an injustice. And some of what Obama is going thru is due to his race. How come nobody is speaking in his behalf. There are black leaders who are not part of his campaign party and can speak for him. What’s going on.

Hiram is now BANNED from this board.

I told you no more cursing, but you chose to act a fool. That last post did it.

I have no problem with disagreements, even though some of the stuff said is petty and childish.

But I made it clear: you continue to curse, you’re gone.

If ANYONE has a post where they are cursing, I will DELETE EVERY POST FROM YOU.

Too many people read this blog, and it’s offensive to have to sort through that crap.

I will continue to PRAY for the ‘HIRAMS’. This is a sick-world; but “they that are whole need not a “PHYSICIAN” anyway.

    Debbie:
I just do not know what the title “Reverend” means. CHRIST THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD is not a “POLITICIAN”. The Jesus who is the impostor that this wicked-world knows is “THE GREAT POLITICIAN”. Having seen the workings of “POLITICS”, do you think this is of CHRIST THE SON OF THE MOST HIGH, who said, “BE THOU PERFECT even as your Father in Heaven is PERFECT.”

Lukewarmness is not of CHRIST. “…Because thou art lukewarm I will spue thee out of my mouth.”
It is ‘TIME’ to be HOT for the TRUTH or to be COLD; not in the middle. One “EXTREME” or the other.

I PRAY for strength for Brother AL SHARPTON, Brother JESSE JACKSON, and Brother ROLAND MARTIN.

    Renee,,

I have been reading your writings and enjoying a few. Your thought and belief system sound just like the “Old Catholic” beliefs. “You must be a catholic and believe everything that the pope says and what we say is the truth,,, or your going to hell.!!! You scream by your postings that you system of belief is the only way. A person must believe “exactly” as you do or a person is going to hell.

Might I suggest that you carefully read Mark 9:38 and Luke 9:49. Jesus didnt even require that kind of blind nonsense as you and most supossedly christian organizations do today. Your supposed ideas are not of the Holy Bible,,,,, they are of men. I will give you just one of many errors that you have as many do…. Jesus name in NOT christ…its a man made name… christ is from the latin christus and from the greek christos. Drop the os and guess what you have??? Guess what,,, christ and messiah mean the very same thing,,, ANNOINTED. All of the Fathers prophets were annointed and all were sent by him for His children.
I tell all the folks that think that theirs is the only way,,, Matthew 23:24,,Ye blind guids,,,which strain at a gnat,, and swallow a camel.

    In the Fathers service…

    Ron,

Are you saying that there is more than one way to God other than Jesus Christ? I am not Catholic, but a multi-denominational female minister for Jesus Christ. You are absolutely correct when you say Christ is not Jesus name, but it is His title “The Anointed One.

Mark 9:38 – “Teacher,” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.” Luke 9:49 – “Master,” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.” We can read Mark 9:38 and Luke 9:49 together as listed above. However it does not speak of there being one or more than one way to God.

The Bible does speak on specifically there being ONLY ONE WAY TO GOD as stated in John 14:6-7 and John 11:25-26 as listed below.

John 14:6-7 – “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” John 11:25-26 –
“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?””

I respect our difference Ron, in that I believe The Holy Bible is ALL truthful in it being inherent in its most literal infallible context. However, I want to hear what you think about there being more than one way to God other than His Son – The Anointed One Jesus.

Furthermore – THERE IS NO PERFECT man, woman, child, church, synagogue, temple, mosque, leader, preacher, or teacher in this world accept Jesus Christ. However, I agree with you again that there are a lot of blind guides leading the blind into a ditch of disaster. At everyone’s appointed time before Christ at the judgment seat that is on the right side of God, every knee will bow and every tongue shall confess Jesus is Lord according to The Holy Bible. READ IT FOR YOURSELF

    Isaiah 45:22-24
“Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other. By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear. They will say of me, ‘In the LORD alone are righteousness and strength.’”

    Romans 14:11-12
It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.’” So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

    Philippians 2:9-11
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

  • http://www.biblestudygroup888.info RENEE

My belief starts with the foundation that The Holy Bible is defined in two words as follows. INERRANT = without errors. INFALLIBLE = perfect, foolproof, water-tight, reliable, dependable, fail-safe, surefire, and flawless. These are also the character of God and His Son Jesus who could only be the above with The Father’s Anointing.

Henceforth, I need this anointed power to keep me good as God sees “good” (obedience) enough for God’s merciful blessing and graceful provisions TODAY, EVERYDAY, and FOREVER in Heaven as my eternal soul’s resting place.

I have determined that NO MAN can supply all of my needs, but I NOW want one to try through God’s knowledge and grace. In these very difficult economic times and female emotional human need, I have determined I want a a man of my own to love, cherish, and obey etc. on this side of Heaven. I have not yet determined how to safety and expeditiously take applications. However, I know what I want! Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Ron

    Renee,,

First, I did not say you were of the catholic faith. I said that your writings reflected those ideas and beliefs. All of our Fathers prophets were anointed and apointed by the Father for His children. They were all sent to help us and guid us. And if the truth was really told the name Jesus is also man made. The letter J is less than 500 years old. In the King James 1611 version it isnt there. Nor is that name. The hebrew,, Yeshua is accepted name. Jesus is a mistranslation of a greek mistranslation.

Greedy, power hungery so called religios men,, have taken Jehovah’s original words delivered to us by His anointed prophets, and have added to and taken away from the original scripture. It is a fact that the pagan Constantine and these evil so called bishops of the church, during the Nicene Council change scriptures. They,,, man,, decided that Jesus was God. No where is there any mention in the Torah or the old testement that there are 3 anything. Until this evil council started this lie.

Man has fould the word of our Father and the prophets for his power and greed over us.
Another example,,, christmas is NOT,, NOT the birthday of Yeshua. For whatever sorry and poor excuse that man uses it is a pagan holiday period. Yeshua was born closer to The Feast of Tabernacles. Man and most of the religious sect still observe this evil day, say its ok, and then pound the poor to go out and spend and oh yes dont forget to give at the prayer call. How can you say that you honor Yeshua on this pagan holiday, knowing its not his birthday?? How about we honor you, your birthday is in lets say May,,, but to hell with what is REAL,,, we gonna change it to September. Now how does that make you feel????

My Sister Renee,,, I will not argue with anyone on religion. All have their own beliefs. I will respect yours because you have the fire and determination. Your belief is strong and most today are weak at best. Do you know that in one of the many Bibles I have they say that one of the names for Our Father is Allah,,, Yes in the Bible,, it means, “to swear to bind oneself by an oath,, so implying faithfulness”. But you have evil and vile corrupt so called preachers telling good people that Allah is a demon and that america is here to destroy, eradicate and commit genocide on all of Islam. That is what I fight against.

I am a student of the Fathers word. Independent so to say. I have been studying for over 25 years and seeking to understand and pass along the knowledge that the Father has given to me.

I will fight and stand up for your beliefs. But for those that preach that kind of vile man made lie.. I will try to do my best to show that those kinds of teachings are of the evil one. I still love those people because they are my brothers and sisters. But Yeshua said,, “Judge not lest ye be judged” We as Jehovahs children are to judge the actions of all of our brothers and sister,,,, we are NOT allowed to judge the person!!!!

Stay strong Sister Renee,,, be safe in the hands of our Father,, and I pray that He will continue to watch over you and your family and you will continue to grow and receive all of the Fathers blessings

    In the Fathers service

    Ron,

    I thank you.

  • HUGgy bear, GOD’s Leading Lady

    Renee:

May The ALMIGHTY GOD bless you for your zeal. In your writings you sound like a student of Harold Camping who teaches that the Bible is the the supreme authority. As far as I am concerned, The CREATOR of mankind is THE SUPREME AUTHORITY.

Remember that Satan, the prince of this wicked-world, has “transformed himself into an angel of light”. So it is no surprise that his ministers come speaking like ministers of light. What else can Satan use to DECEIVE The Children Of ALMIGHTY GOD, but the scriptures? He has used the scriptures to build his RELIGIOUS EMPIRE. He used the word of GOD ALMIGHTY to DECEIVE EVE.

Satan, The Great Impostor, The Great Identity Thief, comes saying, “I am the father, my name is JEHOVAH.” “I am the son, my name is JESUS.” “I am the holy ghost, see, I can speak in tongues.”

    Ron:
Please note that the word “JEHOVAH” is also a transleration, in essence a Made-up word.

  • HUGgy bear, GOD’s Leading Lady

Correction: my post above was accidentally submitted while I as spell-checking the word “TRANSLITERATION”.

The word “JEHOVAH” is also a transliteration, in essence a made-up word.

Thanks be to The ALMIGHTY GOD, my Father in Heaven, that The ONE ANOINTED with power to crush the wicked-one, will soon set up His Kingdom in/on earth; THE KINGDOM that we must seek instead of looking up to “POLITICIANS” to give us a piece of this wicked-world.

  • Ron

    Hugy Bear

You are exactly right,, :) I sometimes forget to include a lot of information that I have found to be the Truth, and that the Father has given to me. In hebrew His name is YHWH ! I like to kinda kick all names to the side and use Our Father! That is very very personal to me. What can be better than a all loving and all forgiving Father.

Its to bad that most folks are so far that I find with love and a strong conviction about Our Father. Ones that can come together, not always believing in what the other believes, but want to share and hopefully with the sharing continue our strugle to understand and always strive to be better children of the Father.

    May all be blessed

    Renee,,,

You are most welcome. Thank you for your information and your understanding. and expressing your knowledge. I only speak the things that I have been given permission to give. Anytime that I express my beliefs and information, I hope, really hope that it makes the listener go to the word to see if what I am saying is correct. And thats a good thing. :) Yeshua said, “Study to show thy self approved.” Thats why I will always be a Student!!!!

    Peace be to you

    Ron:

Did you notice that in signing you write, “In the Fathers service”? Spiritually, every mistake that is allowed is for a reason.

I differentiate between the father-of-LIE-from-the-beginning, whose works this wicked-world does, from my Father, The Father of Yeshua, by addressing The ALMIGHTY GOD as my Father-in-Heaven as Yeshua taught his disciples. I do not use “heavenly father” because Satan is claiming this title too as he is not earthly; he does not have an earthly body. It is really personal.

    P-E-A-C-E be unto you.

    Hugy Bear,,

LOL you are certinaly, The Fathers Leading Lady!!! I will explain my writing. As you see I give all praise and all honor to the Father I know. I capitalize His name. To me the lier can never be a father but a father of deceit , a devourer, and destroyer of life. I believe in only one Father. The Father I believe in is recorded by the prophet Isaiah, 41:10, 42:8, 43:11, and 44:8. I can go on and on lol. He, the Alpha and the Omega, the infinite “I AM”, is whom I say is my Father and Father of all that was, is and ever shall be.

    Peace be unto you,
    a humble student,
    In the Fathers service,

I watched the “God and Government” sermons, which Fox news posted in it’s entirety on their website yesterday. I was very surprised, and appalled at the way the press failed to report that Jeremiah Wright, after saying the words “God Da*n America”, then turned to his congregation and said “FORGIVE ME FOR THE GOD DAMN”.

How is it that no one has reported this, why is it the so called press, so called reporters, did not report that Jeremiah Wright said to his congregation, “FORGIVE ME FOR THE GOD DAMN”, seconds after he had said the words God Da*m America.

Roland I ask that you let the people know, if you need to watch the tape again, go to the Fox news site, and the part of the sermons where he says God Da*n America, and second later asked his congregation for forgiveness. It is near the middle of tape #3.

Please Roland, tell the people, tell CNN, let them know to what extent they truly have been deceived and manipulated by those who had a agenda to derail Obama’s candidacy, the people who first deceitfully sliced, and diced, and then released the sound bite.

May we always bring our Father in Heaven, The ALMIGHTY GOD, The GOD and FATHER of our Lord and Saviour Yeshua, CHRIST Jesus, Emmanuel, JOY and not PROVOCATION for evermore. THis is what happens when you mix politics and religion. Did we as black folks forget about the religous right that voted for Bush. While I am strongly spiritual, I want a leader who is inviting to all people, all colors and all faiths. Don’t blame the media that you are a part. Racism and hatred are not acceptable regardless of who dispenses it. Some of what Wright said is true, but his timing was horrible. What kind of friend and mentor would use an opportunity that they know would hurt you. What kind of Christian is Wright? Sounds more like an opportunistic egoist. We would have had a fit had a white religious spewed this same kind of speech. We cant act like we are surprised at what the media says. Funny you had no problem accusing the Clintons of racism and bigotry. Sounds like a little hypocrisy. Karma is funny thing or as the Bible says”you reap what you sow”..Obama and his followers got so caught in winning and the power game, they forgot the rules do apply to him and yes America is still racist. In politics everything is fair game. Martin you had to know that White Americans were not going to go for that kind of speech from a man who claims to be a Christian minister and they aint trying to hear about what they have done to black folks and other minorities. We may have a black president one day, but it will be when most of the baby boomers are gone and it will be someone who truly transcends race, not someone who used to get votes.
