John Edwards engaged to mistress Rielle Hunter?
Rumors ran rampant recently that former presidential candidate, John Edwards, and his mistress, Rielle Hunter, may be getting hitched. But, a rep for the onetime senator has shot down these reports, insisting Edwards is not engaged to Hunter.
A recent report in the National Enquirer claims that the scandal-laden former North Carolina senator has asked his former mistress to marry him.
No engagement between Edwards and his mistress
The report claims that Edwards plans to marry Rielle Hunter after his divorce from his current wife, Elizabeth Edwards, is finalized.
But, a spokesperson for Edwards is denying report that the disgraced 2008 presidential contender is going to make his mistress his missus.
Edwards’ spokeswoman, Joyce Fitzpatrick, told CNN in an e-mail that Edwards’ engagement report is “absolutely not true.”
The former presidential hopeful and his mistress’ engagement report comes a little over two weeks after Edwards announced that he was the father of Hunter’s two-year-old daughter.
No direct communication between the two
But the spokeswoman claims Edwards and Hunter don’t even communicate directly any longer.
“They only communicate through a third party,” to work out Edwards visitation with the little girl, she says, and when Edwards visits daughter Frances Quinn, Hunter is not present.
The Enquirer story
Citing anonymous sources, the National Enquirer that broke the previous Edwards’ scandal this time claims that Edwards asked his baby’s mama and his mistress Hunter to marry him on the same day he told her that he would make an announcement confirming his paternity of Hunter’s child.
“John has proposed to Rielle, and she said yes,” the source is said to have told the Enquirer.
Another source told the newspaper: “John knew Rielle had been waiting for a proposal for two long years. Since they’ve gotten involved, she’s followed every order he gave her, going on a cross-country cover-up, hiding away during her pregnancy and after giving birth for the sake of his presidential aspirations.”
