Nathan Deal Delays Retirement To Try To Kill Health Care Reform

Congressman Nathan Deal (R-Ga.), is delaying his resignation from Congress to vote against health care, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Deal had planned to resign on Monday in order to enter the Georgia gubernatorial race, but delayed his resignation by three weeks.

“Just two days after I announced my intentions to leave Congress, the majority party stepped up the schedule for the proposed health care bill,” Deal said in a statement. “Having been deeply involved in all health care legislation for the past decade, I knew it was important to stay and vote down this bill.”

Deal’s vote — “no” to the health care bill — means that Democrats will need to have 217 votes, rather than 216.
