Roland continues the discussion on health care reform.

Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama stated that he would vote no on the health care reform bill despite being a strong supporter of then Senator Barack Obama. He even campaigned for then, Sen. Obama, often speaking on his behalf. Health care was the dominant issue of the campaign at that time. Some feel as though Rep. Davis is doing this because he is seeking the Democratic nomination to run for governor of Alabama and recognizes that this could be an unpopular position among many of the state’s conservative voters.

So who is Congressman Davis representing? Give Rep. Davis a call at (202) 225 2665 and share your thoughts about his no vote on health care reform.

  • Do Better

First, there is no “Sen. Davis” representing Alabama. Next, we do have a U.S. Rep Davis elected by the people of Alabama. From a journalist to a journalist, please fact check next time.

To completely discount Rep. Davis' argument seems foolish. $1 trillion for 45 million people? Seems a bit excessive to me. To reduce Davis' argument to political pandering does him a disservice and the people of this state. While yes, Rep. Davis heavily campaigned for the President, does mean he should go blindly into the night on this bill. He's not against health reform, he's against this bill. Just because this bill is for health reform, doesn't mean he should vote for it if he supports the President. It's a bad bill that needs to be gotten right. The band-aid for health insurance (which is essentially what this bill mandates) is broken.

Look at Rep. Davis point of view. I know you want to be one-of-the-issue-journalists-to-take-a-stand-because-it-is-the-right-thing-to-do types, but don't forget to be impartial. Ask to look at what Davis is looking at if you don't believe his argument. Find a better attack for his argument than simple political pandering to conservative constituents. It's more complicated than that.
