TJMS: Roland talks with Education Secretary, Arne Duncan about the Promise Neighborhood Campaign, 05.06.10

Roland talks with Education Secretary, Arne Duncan about a new campaign entitled the Promise Neighborhood Campaign. This new campaign looks to surround schools with cradle to career opportunities. Planning grants are going to 20 communities that have a tremendous need, high drop out rates, high poverty and high crime. Trough this program an entire community from babies to through college students and beyond where everyone is rallying behind students, everyone helping students become successful.
Roland and Sec. Duncan also discuss the work Geoffrey Canada and the HCZ Zone is doing in Harlem by rebuilding neighborhoods block by block, street by street, house by house.
The Promise Neighborhood Campaign is a chance to prove to the country that poverty is not destiny. Children who come from very tough communities when given the right opportunities with the right adults around them can grow up and be successful.
