TJMS: Roland Martin Talks with Byron Encalade, President of the Louisiana Oystermen Association

Roland Martin talks to Byron Encalade, the President of the Louisiana Oystermen Association about President Obama’s address. The Louisiana Oystermen Association represents African-American, Vietnamese, and Cambodian and Native American fisherman. Encalade assess President Obama’s plan to clean up the Gulf Coast, BP cleaning up the oil within the next few weeks and what BP should do to compensate those most effected by this disaster.
Encalade states that what the President said sounds real good but BP’s credibility does not have any credibility amongst the fishing community.
Encalade expressed that it was good to hear the President say that he was going to set up the $750 million fund to make sure that BP keeps its word to clean up this problem. Encalade goes on to explain that prior to Congresswoman Maxine Waters and Sheila Jackson Lee coming to the Gulf, people did not know that there was a large African-American, Cambodian and Native American community in the area.
When asked if he has filed any claims with BP, Encalade says that he as filed a claim with BP, but the $5000 that they were given is a joke. Most of the fishermen invested everything that they had to get ready for the May season.
