Roland Martin talks to African-American Oystermen and Fishermen in Plaquemines Parish (VIDEO)

07/09/2010 10:47 pm 3 comments

Roland Martin appears on CNN with Campbell Brown to detail the plight of African-American oystermen and fishermen in Plaquemines Parish. They are not able to make a living on the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and are being shut out of clean up contracts.

BP has brought in outsiders to aid in the clean up efforts, which has ultimately forced local fishermen and oystermen completely out of work. Roland explains what these people are saying to President Obama and General Thad Allen; you have to help the local people first.

DON’T MISS Washington Watch with Roland Martin this Sunday on TV One at 11 AM EST for special coverage of the Gulf Coast oil spill and its effect on African-Americans.

This was an interesting and well done piece….finally from a perspective I could appreciate. My question remains – where in the #$@@$ are the elected officials (LOCAL, state, fed) that keep approving contract, after contract using taxpayer funds that shut out local folk, yet the only one's who seem to benefit are their croonies??? Why are we always talking “after the fact” when these types of financial issues come up. Certainly the people (across the land) should be empowered to insure they are part of the effort. Anyway, good job Team Roland for providing a perspective that is not a part of mainstream news. The Bro on the commercials – where is he??? I am sure he knows about this mess.

ROLAND S. MARTIN: Football Power In Texas Has Shifted To Houston

By Roland S. Martin Editor-in-Chief RolandMartinReports.com I hate the Dallas Cowboys. No, I don’t dislike them. I flat out cannot stand anything about the Dallas Cowboys. The year they went 1-15, I was ticked they won that one game. When they played in those three Super Bowls in the ’90s, I rooted hard for the opposition. Hell, I hate them more than the Ku Klux Klan! That’s why I take great pleasure in seeing the transfer of power in the [...]
