A 1-year-old boy tested positive for PCP and cocaine after he was seen in a home on the West Side chewing on a piece of tinfoil police believe was tainted with the two substances.
The boy was at a residence in the 3600 block of West 5th Avenue when a person there saw him chewing on the piece of foil, said Chicago Police Officer Melvin Branch. There was black substance on his teeth, Branch added.
When the boy started “acting lethargic” he was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital; he tested positive there for the two drugs, the officer said.
The hospital called police at about 1:18 a.m. reporting an incident of child abuse. Investigators searched the home and found various drug paraphernalia, police said.
As of Sunday, the boy was listed in good condition and remained at the hospital for observation.
