Change the U.S. Constitution? Let’s Do It!

Republicans like Sens. Lindsey Graham, Jon Kyl and John Cornyn are practically tripping over themselves to jump on the latest “Dumb Way to Solve the Illegal Immigration Problem” bus by suggesting Congress examine the repeal of the 14th Amendment, which deals with the question of becoming a U.S. citizen.

The far right has latched onto the idea that the provision is being abused by illegal immigrants, choosing to come to America to have their children here — thus greatly contributing to the illegal immigration problem we have. They are even trying to suggest that how it is being used today bears no resemblance to the original intent of the Founding Fathers when it was created.

Of course, the 14th Amendment was not in the first U.S. Constitution as drawn up by our framers. It was adopted on July 9, 1868, to prevent Southern states from denying citizenship to former slaves and their children, since they didn’t choose to come to America. They were brought here for the purpose of the vicious and dehumanizing free labor plan that helped build the nation — slavery.

It’s clear that Congress is choosing to apply a Band-Aid to the illegal immigration problem instead of dealing with it head-on. We have members on both sides of the aisle who care more about protecting their precious jobs and partisan poll numbers, instead of actually finding a bipartisan solution to fix the problem. So instead of leadership, we get dumb and asinine suggestions like this one, which will do absolutely nothing about the estimated 10 million illegal immigrants in the country.

That’s right, nothing.

So, what is the GOP’s plan? To make it retroactive? OK, how about we take it all the way back and toss out all of the white descendants and anyone else non-Native American. If you really think about it, they were here first, and all of us are simply intruding on the land that was truly theirs. Who thinks Graham, Kyl, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and the other bumbling idiots we call U.S. senators, would actually be able to pass the DNA test to establish if they are Native American or not?

But hey, since it is in vogue to alter the U.S. Constitution, why don’t we just go all out and have congressional hearings to re-examine the entire document? We have blue ribbon panels in Washington, D.C., for everything else, so why not pop the hood of that old document and bring it into the 21st century?

Let’s start with Article 1, which states that you must be at least 25 to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and 35 in the U.S. Senate. Since our men and women can die for America beginning at the age of 18, get driver’s licenses at 18, vote at 18 and drink at 21, this is an arcane law.
We’ve got zillionaires building Fortune 500 companies before they are eligible to run, so why not let them take their shot? If you can be senile and serve as long as you want, why not give the young bucks a shot?

Whack the Second Amendment. That’s right, we don’t need it. If no one had guns, would we really be that bad of a country? According to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, on average, more than 100,000 people are shot and killed annually. The framers originally intended for militias to be created. With the number of city, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies, we should get rid of every gun in America. We’re paying these people; therefore, let them do what they do. If guns were banned totally, our crime rates would be similar to that of countries like England — our rate is 31 times higher than that developed country.

Tighten up the 10th Amendment. By doing this, we get rid of the constant battles with states rights. Just put all of the relevant laws on the federal level, such as jurisdiction over education and voting, and then we won’t need to have 50 different ways of doing business.

Let’s junk the 22nd Amendment. If we’ve got a great president, why limit how long they can serve? I don’t mind a four- or five-term president. As long as the people are happy, let ‘em keep handling our business! Franklin Delano Roosevelt is consistently voted the best president in American history. Would he have gotten that designation by just serving two terms?

It’s un-American for a group of people to have no representation. The 23rd Amendment provides presidential electors to the District of Columbia. That’s not enough. They need their own members in the House and two senators. Fair is fair, and this is dead wrong.

The Equal Rights Amendment was never ratified, and it should have been. Why continue to screw over women in a male-dominated world? Come on, guys, stop being wimps and let the ladies have their say.

I’m willing to put $1,000 down that the Republicans — and Democrats — won’t bother backing any of this. They’ll likely say this is going too far and we should take it one step at a time. The same folks want to ban gay marriage in the Constitution and now change citizenship. Sorry, folks. The U.S. Constitution is far too precious to be messed with by a bunch of rabid politicians who don’t have the guts to look their far left and right supporters in the eye and say they are going to truly lead on immigration.

Let me know when this silly sideshow is over. I, and other Americans, am too busy trying to tackle real problems. This clearly isn’t one of them.

We, as citizens of the pseudo-great nation called America are locked in a heated debate about illegal immigration. Every year, thousands (if not millions) flock to this nation seeking a chance and what they think is “the American Dream.” Far too often that dream is deferred when the dream seekers realize that their exodus from the oppressive conditions of their native land has only led to a fallacy of an equal opportunity. Now, we have conservatives and liberals on the brink of an immigration Civil War here in America, while our government stands idly by, too afraid to set a clear line of demarcation. To that effect, some are actually starting to call for the amending of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of these un-United States, while on the other side we have the inept pseudo-leaders of these un-United States opposing such a move because they believe that it would usurp history.

The fact of the matter is that the Constitution was written in the 18th century when there was no worry (or forethought) about having a problem (of this magnitude) with people entering the country illegally. We are now in the 21st century and are witnessing just how antiquated some of our guiding principles and laws, as held by the Constitution, can be. The current problem of illegal immigration is one that is rooted in the accurate assumption that, every year thousands of immigrants cross the Western border of the United States and enter the country illegally. Once they are here, they further migrate to many other states and cities, but they form their heaviest concentration in those Western border states.

Many seem to believe that these illegal immigrants (primarily Mexican immigrants), can become a drain on the American economy. An economy that is simply sputtering, suffering from high unemployment and an almost worthless dollar. Whereas there is some strain placed on our economy from the aspect of to provide medical care and schooling, it is a fallacy to believe that the vast majority of Mexicans who migrate here illegally are actually a burden. In fact, many of them actually work the jobs that most Americans (White and Black) have deemed as too substandard. Many of these same individuals who hold these same beliefs also assert that illegal immigrants are responsible for the vast majority crime committed in those border states. I guess they have forgotten that all of the crimes that they blame on illegal immigrants were present before the current crises. However, neither of these inaccurate assertions can negate the fact that illegal immigrants are, in essence, here illegally. The debate is further perpetuated by the fact if an illegal immigrant gives birth to a child here in these un-United States, then that child is automatically granted citizenship. But what happens if that child’s illegal immigrant parents are found out? They face deportation and an agonizing dilemma of: What about my child(ren)? This is the point where the debate becomes very complicated (if you have a heart).

The solution to this problem seems to be very complex (if you are a politician), but could be rather simplistic. Arizona has decided to exercise their intestinal fortitude by passing legislation, giving law enforcement the power to question the residency status that everyone who is detained, who they believe could be an illegal immigrant? This is the most asinine and ridiculous idea because you begin to infringe upon the civil liberties of particular ethnic groups (we call that racial profiling). The pseudo-governor of Arizona (ascension by chance) says that the federal government is not doing enough to curve the problems of illegal immigration, but didn’t the President just send her 524 troops to help patrol the border? That was more than she asked for. Perhaps we can build a wall similar to the wall that once separated East and West Germany, or perhaps one similar to the Great Wall of China. These solutions are only band-aids and serve no real preventative purposes other than political publicity (especially in an election year). What is needed is a common sense approach to immigration reform.

Ironically, I actually agree with the not-so-great Senator Lindsey Gramm, that the 14th Amendment needs to be changed, but not to the effect that he posits. I do agree that the 14th Amendment is antiquated, but it needs to be changed to the effect of making emigration to these un-United States fair and consistent for all prospective immigrants. Currently, for some immigrants, it is damn-near impossible to get here through legal means (i.e. Haitians and some from other African nations), while for others, they are welcomed with open arms (i.e. Europeans). Then there is the peculiar case of Cubans: Just reach the soil and touch it and you are granted asylum. This is that antiquation of the 14th Amendment because it does not include a process that is fair and equitable for all immigrant groups. The 14th Amendment is supposed to be the “Equal Protection” amendment (to include non-citizens). However, where is the clarity in this amendment? We have to address the issue of illegal immigration from Mexico and Latin America and any other country. But how can we justify given them equal protection when they are here illegally?

To do this we need to give all of those illegal immigrants AMNESTY. However, that is amnesty to say: I am here illegally and I want to return to my native country and go through the legal challenges to get here legally. If these illegal immigrants have children who were born here, then that birth right to citizenship should continue to be honored, but with strings. If an illegal immigrant does not want to be separated from their citizen-born child then they have the option of taking that child back their native country with them. At the time that they can obtain legal entry into the United States then they may return with their citizen-born child. If they cannot gain legal re-entry, then that child has the right to return when he/she is of sufficient age to do so, because he/she is a citizen of these un-United States.

The law is clear and I empathize with illegal immigrants, but it is time for the O’Bama administration to stand and deliver on one of their platform issues. Hopefully, this time they will get it right!!! The truth hurts but the truth is.

So What is the GOP Plan? Theft by Deception! Because the GOP are still on the path of having every man, woman, or child of immigrant skin to “attest” unto them their citizenship, nationality, and naturalization. The GOP Plan is still the same plan that is still stagnant because 13 Republicans did the right thing and didn't pass SB1639! The GOP Plan is still sell fear of the borders, just never say the “Northern” border. Push their Border Federal Dollars Economic Opportunity at the Southern Border by selling fear of the immigrant! Fear of the hispanic, latino, mexican, african american born in America YOU LIE! YOU LIE! Professors from going through the “backdoor” of their America. The GOP Plan is their continued push to “consolidate” the Secretary the Interior, Agriculture, Treasury, Social Security Commissioner, Internal Revenue Service, Defense for that matter unto The Secretary, the Secretary of Homeland Security. Ending what Chertof called “Congressional Churn.” By striking, United States Attorney General, while in the consultation of the above, while in the consultation with the Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization by inserting THE SECRETARY. Well that bill failed, but the GOP 108th Congress Generational Theft by Deception rolls on. The post Bush/Cheney GOP Adminstration, Senate, Congress for 6 years put on their “Z” patches and said bookem all! Bookem all! SB1070 Section 1070 brown skin, YOU LIE! Rep Joe Wilson, YOU LIE Obama brown skin, brown eyes man, woman, child and your neighbor! Ya'll didn't get the Arizona AZPOST SB1070 Two for One Immigrant Super Tuesday video, starring, hispanic, latinos, mexican, african american born in the USA! Attest! Attest! Unto McCain, Kyl, Shadegg, Franks, Pearce, Arpaio, in Jan's Land! That's the GOP Plan! Could you see Sarah Palin as the Secretary of Homeland Security! It would be what she “deemed” necessary! So if you want to know what the plan was 18 days after 9/11 the GOP plan! Change the legal language and let's go huntin honey! Toto did come back! Dorothy did come back! Rand Paul attestations on this corner! Tancredo “forced attestations” down that street! That's the GOP Plan! Well, first question I would ask if if you read the BILL. SB1639 the so called “amnesty is reality and reality is amensty” come out come out wherevever you are! You are absolutely correct, you just left out the HU factor! The Human Element factor. Because whatever, whomever, pushed us to where we are at when it comes to immigration. We are in trouble. Amnesty is reality, and reality is Amnesty. Just not the plate before us. We are still stuck in the GOP 2000 Suspension of Disbelief. He lied! Let's get that off our chest first! He then just “turned the page.” No one handed him his script! It is time for the Obama Adminstration to stand and deliver the GOP Generational Theft by Deception Axis of post Bush/Cheney “DOERS” and tell them, we aren't going back! We aren't going to “Bitburg” 1942! We aren't going back to the boats! We aren't going back to the Mayflower! We aren't going to force the “attestation” of men, women, and children at gunpoint, SWATPOINT in the workplace or at Vitter Park! We aren't going to have “crime suppression sweeps” across this great land like in Arizona. We aren't going to have “single site” YOU LIE! YOU LIE! brown skin, Professors trying to go through the backdoor of their America “SWEEPS.” Call the HOMELAND if you want too, but we aren't going to continue with the Bush/Cheney GOP Generational Theft by Deception 5.7 Trillion Axis of Evil doers suspension of their “Disbeliefs.” Tha's what the Obama Adminstration should stand and deliver on! All because the GOP doesn't deserve to force the attestation of a man, woman, child or their neighbor for $5,000 per man, $5,000 per woman, and $1250.00 per child up-to-three! Archives don't lie! That's what the Obama Adminstration should stand and deliver on. America needs to wake up and smell the years thats gone bye. America needs to just “turn the page” on the GOP “portal to portal” domination of you unto them. Obama Adminstration needs to stand and deliver the end of the Bush/Cheney Federalist Preambles the GOP is writing their next “forced attestations” of all of us unto ….I don't know! The next EVE of EEVS!

Oh how I love it……watching the knee jerk reactions of Republican senators. Well things could have been worse. How worse, one might ask. Lindsey Graham, Jon Kyl and John Cornyn could have worked for the D.C. fire department. No one would have ever been rescued and no buildings would have been saved. These individuals are ideal should Hollywood ever decide to remake “the three stooges”.
