TJMS: Congressman Clyburn: It would Be “Foolhardy” Not To Have An African-American In House Leadership

11/11/2010 12:02 pm 0 comments

Congressman James Clyburn joins Roland Martin on the Tom Joyner Morning Show to discuss the battle for the Minority Whip position between him and Steny Hoyer. Congressman Clyburn told Roland that neither he nor Hoyer have enough votes to win the Minority Whip position.

Roland asked Congressman Clyburn what does it mean to have an African-American in the leadership position of the House. Congressman Clyburn said, “… we will not be setting the agenda. We will have to be putting up an alternative agenda. We would have to be articulating what it is about the Republican agenda that’s not good for our continuance.”

Clyburn went on to say; “it would be foolhardy to have those discussions taking place without input from places like the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus because the road back to the majority runs through minority caucuses and communities … and so those positions, those experiences, those issues that are important to minority communities need to have input at that table.”

That’s why I take great pleasure in seeing the transfer of power in the [...]
