New York – Federal agents dealt another major blow to New York’s five Mafia crime families by arresting more than 100 suspected mobsters throughout the Northeast on charges including murder, extortion and narcotics trafficking.

The FBI said most of the arrests were made in pre-dawn raids Thursday. Many were in Brooklyn, but they occurred throughout New York City, in New Jersey and New England. Charges include murder, extortion and narcotics trafficking.

Law enforcement officials tell CBS News that this is considered “the largest one-day mob roundup in U.S. history.”

It includes the five La Cosa Nostra families in New York, the de Cavalzante crime family in New Jersey and two alleged mob members of New England organized crime families, CBS News producer Pat Milton reports. The acting boss of the Colombo crime family and one of the ruling members of the Gambino crime family were among those arrested, sources said.

The charges include four murders and labor racketeering involving the International Longshoremen.

ROLAND S. MARTIN: Football Power In Texas Has Shifted To Houston

By Roland S. Martin Editor-in-Chief RolandMartinReports.com I hate the Dallas Cowboys. No, I don’t dislike them. I flat out cannot stand anything about the Dallas Cowboys. The year they went 1-15, I was ticked they won that one game. When they played in those three Super Bowls in the ’90s, I rooted hard for the opposition. Hell, I hate them more than the Ku Klux Klan!
