Republican presidential hopeful Tim Pawlenty took aim at President Obama today, calling the Democrat he wants to defeat a “major practitioner of class warfare.”
The former Minnesota governor outlined what he’s calling a “Better Deal” in a major economic speech at the University of Chicago, right in Obama’s adopted hometown.
Pawlenty proposed:
- A “simpler, fairer and flatter tax system” with two individual rates, at 10% and 25%. He’s also calling for the business tax rate to be cut from 35% to 15% and wants to eliminate special-interest tax breaks and subsidies.
- A “Google test” for cutting federal spending. If goods or services can be found through the Internet, Pawlenty says, then “the federal government probably doesn’t need to be doing it.”
- “Sunsetting” all government regulations unless Congress votes to keep them.
