Steve Harvey Defends President Obama, Calls Smiley And West “Uncle Toms”

Earlier this week during his syndicated morning radio show, Steve Harvey went in on Tavis Smiley and Dr. Cornel West for their constant criticisms of President Barack Obama.

After reading an email from a listener who insisted that Smiley and West’s current Poverty Bus Tour was nothing more than a hustle, Harvey added his two cents blasting the duo for using personal vendettas to go out and sully the POTUS’ name.

“I was a huge fan of Cornel West,” he said. “[But] Tavis, I seen him coming a mile away. His anger started when he had a town hall meeting, President Obama couldn’t come because of the campaign trail and he sent Mrs. Obama. He has held that grudge every since.”

The Original King of Comedy, Family Feud host and suit designer didn’t stop there. After reading Smiley’s request that Obama join him for “a roundtable for two or three days on poverty,” Harvey joked, “Who in the hell got 2-3 days for your ass? I ain’t got time to sit down with your monkey behind for two, three days, let alone the President of the United States. We got three wars going on, the economy crashing and we going to sit down with Tavis ass for three days?”

Harvey ended the rant insisting that somebody is paying Smiley and West to produce the Poverty Tour, asking “where are you getting the money for these buses?” But not before performing a skit where he said he was the president of UTLO.org (which stands out for “Uncle Tom Look Out”) and that he spotted an “uncle tom” driving a bus.

LMAOOOO Steve is a mess, but he nailed right on the head wit Tavis Smiley.
I always thought Tavis had some personal reasons against Obama as to why his views turned downright ugly out of nowhere. Now we know

Steve is absolutely right. I use to respect Tavis and Cornel but they are haters and all for themselves, they just want to get in the White House. On their tour, they haven’t provided people with the resources to move forward ll they did was make known their contempt for the President. First they was concentrating on the poverty in the black community but since no one was paying them any attention they change it to poverty in all communities. What Tavis and many on the left fail to realize is, not voting for Obama is not going to hurt him, he has already built his legacy by becoming the first African American president and accomplishing healthcare reform, financial reform, killing Bin Laden and too many other legislation to name. I am pretty sure at this point The president would love nothing else but to enjoy his family and write a book that will fly off the shelves because he is going to be in high demand when he leaves office. This man is trying to complete everything he has promised but he has to work with a congress that’s trying everything in their power to stop him and take him down because they hate him. Voting for Obama is for the good of the country and for our own best interest, not his. I am happy people are seeing Tavis and Cornel for who they are. This remind me of how Malcolm X was taken out by his own people.

i don’t know where in america it says all black people have to think alike and we should not hold our black officials to high standards and question policies they make and actions they take on the part of american
constituents. i question actions of all politicians no matter what there race, gender, or sexual orientation.

You are so on point with this comment, Tavis is out for Tavis and is failing horribly…whatever happened to his annual dog and pony show, did he ever accomplished anything??? And when faced with people who didn’t agree with his agenda on the TJMS he up and quit, wow.

I have lost alot of for respect for Tavis Smiley when he  disrpected the the first lady when she tried attend his seminar in her husband place due to him campaining for the Presidency of the United States  Tavis is arrogant and thinks he speakes for all black people he doesn’t speak for me or my family. Cornel west and Tavis are the typical black crabs in the barrel!

I agree Tonya but “where in America” does it say that two black men have to become obsessed with sullying the name and overall image of this country’s first black president? You can see right through every silly little attack. They are just upset that they weren’t the first black prez. It’s sickening.

  • Tango Jordan

Wow… the blind loyalty to Obama is amazing. Even if they did have “agendas”, I totally concur with all the points they make against our POTUS. I think he’s so middle-of-the-road as to be rendered ineffective. Bill Clinton was a “blacker” president in regards to addressing the problems in the African American community. If we want to get personal, Steve Harvey is running a con just like his relationship books. How the hell you give relationship advice when you’re a cheater? Black folks quick to holla “hater”, but ain’t no hate here. I campaigned enthusiastically for him in his first term, he’ll be lucky if I don’t vote this time, because right now I’m content with just sitting back and letting someone else win. If the Dems are smart, they’ll find another candidate because Obama is just like every other politician to me: great at being elected, but terrible at leading.

Tavis NEVER liked President Obama.  He reluctantly supported him for President.  I used to be a big fan of Tavis and admired the fact that when he opened his mouth he had something meaningful to say.  I don’t like the fact that he is publicly insulting the President.  If anything, Tavis and Dr. West do need to sit down and talk (not for three days) and try to work out their differences.

Thank you, Mr. Harvey. I agree. Tavis Smiley never ceases to amaze me. How much bigger can his ego get?! In my book, he went from 100 to 0 the minute he indicated a lack of support for President Obama.  If he has so much to say, he and his big, fat, Uncle Tom ego should run for president and see what happens. As for Dr. West, I had a lot of respect for him until he started using his academic brilliance against his own people.  And, by the way, where were these “wise critics” during the 8 years that Bush messed up the country? My impression of Smiley and West is that their primary goal is to get in the graces of the white majority. Both are absolutely pathetic. As another commenter said, we’re still dealing with crabs in a barrel.

Its clear to me that after reviewing Michelle Robinson-obama Bio that she was a member of the Daley crew. I mean she apart of the most politically corrupt family in this country (The Daley’s). Once a member of the Daley’s always a member of the Daley’s gang. Look at all the positions she had from harvard law school and the salaries she recieved. Involved with Americorp to funnel money. Worked at U of Chicago along with her husband. Involved with an intern when she was a member of sibley & austin’s managerment. Check out her families estate holdings.

Uh, Doesn’t The Tavis Smiley show appear on PBS? And didn’t Romney say he was gonna get rid of PBS? I think Smiley may want to change his attitude, quick fast and in a hurry! LOL
