NEW YORK — When Cornel West recently spoke to The Huffington Post about media coverage of African American issues, the Princeton professor argued that President Obama is avoiding journalists who’ve offered tough critiques of his administration, such as PBS host Tavis Smiley. “Obama won’t touch him with a 10-foot pole,” West said.
On Wednesday, Smiley backed up West’s viewpoint during a C-SPAN sit-down with him to discuss their 16-city poverty tour.
“Prior to his being elected, he came on my radio programs and TV programs with regularity,” Smiley said. “Once he got elected and my critique of him — about holding him accountable to various things didn’t sit so well with him or the people around him — he has not, at this point, come on my TV or radio programs one time since he’s been in this White House.”
Smiley said that Obama, whom he’s known for years, “is the first president in my professional career that hasn’t invited me to the White House.”

I’m tired of people like Cornel West and Tavis misrepresenting the opinions of the black community. Anybody with half a brain can figure that white corporate america and white politicians in congress and the senate had decided that they would band together to make this president fail. In other words to coin a phrase they used when he was elected “to break Obama”. So both of them should show us what they are doing to address the issues they are bringing forward, and what they are doing to expose the undoubted racially motivated decisions being made in our Congress and Senate to undermine this president.

Wow, Tavist has become quite full of himself.

Mr. Smiley why should the president invite you to the White House? Are you the spokesman for the black community? I think not. I have been voting since my 18th birthday and I am 59 years old. I don’t need you to express my concerns. I articulate them very well by voting for Congressional individuals and presidents during elections. In addition, I send my own concerns via emails, telephones, editorials and make monetary donations to the candidates of my choice. So, who are you? Guess what? He hasn’t invited me either.

I personally invite Smiley and West to North Philadelphia. Become mentors and get off the soap box. They claim to be inspired by Dr. King but they are looking like pompous fools!

Rep. James Clyburn joined Roland Martin on the set of Washington Watch to discuss the Clyburn Amendment. This amendment was created to help the poorest of the poor across the United States. MR. MARTIN: Is there anything specific the President and Congress can do to target African-Americans when it comes to this high unemployment number? REP. CLYBURN: Yes, there is, and we – you’ll find it in the rule development part of the so-called “stimulus bill.” I- — was – [...]

By Roland S. Martin Editor-in-Chief RolandMartinReports.com I hate the Dallas Cowboys. No, I don’t dislike them. I flat out cannot stand anything about the Dallas Cowboys. The year they went 1-15, I was ticked they won that one game. When they played in those three Super Bowls in the ’90s, I rooted hard for the opposition. Hell, I hate them more than the Ku Klux Klan! That’s why I take great pleasure in seeing the transfer of power in the [...]
