Sparks flew Tuesday during the Congressional Black Caucus “For the People Jobs Tour” town hall in Detroit, MI, as black caucus members told the mostly black audience to “unleash” them to confront President Barack Obama on the issue of jobs.
During the sometimes heated town hall, peoples’ frustration over their economic conditions overwhelmed decorum and order.
“We don’t put pressure on the president,” said California Rep. Maxine Waters. “Let me tell you why. We don’t put pressure on the president because ya’ll love the president. You love the president. You’re very proud…to have a black man [in the White House] …First time in the history of the United States of America. If we go after the president too hard, you’re going after us.”

Wow. Unfreakingbelievable. Should we unleash Waters to go after Obama because the CBC did nothing to stop Bill Clinton’s moves to hurt blacks in the 90′s? Or, has the glue from Waters’ wig seeped into her brain and damaged her memory about who’s been in Congress the longest and had the most time to bring better policies to the black community?
Look, I’m glad the CBC is trying to connect blacks with job opportunities, many kudos for that. But, I’m still holding out to see if certain members of the CBC – especially Leader Cleaver – is trying to use this tour as a vehicle to kneecap the president. Waters has definitely put the tour in side-eye status for me.

Talk about posturing,!! she’s just jumping on the bandwagon, where was her and CBC outcry under previous Administrations, ?? yes the unemployment rate is higher than any other demographic, but the CBC has the same power as the Tea Party, and they should have been speaking out before now, She and the CBC are just posturing in front of a room full of black voters!!

Isn’t she the Congress Woman? The POTUS does not write nor vote on legislation. Not that we shouldn’t lobby the President but we seem to continue to let our “representatives” off the hook all the time. There were opportunities last year before the midterms (with a democratic house and senate) were there could have been legislation for jobs, a budget, debt ceiling, increase in upper tax rates but our “representatives” did not have the courage to act! That is not on the President.

I will give the tea party this much…. they have a strangle hold on the republican party. They got their agenda through. What does the CBC do? What is their agenda? Have they ever used their so-called strength in a similar way?
All this whiney behavior from Rep. Waters (Who is under ethics investigation mind you) is proof positive that we need to primary some of these democrats in up & coming elections. They need to GO.

Is there any connection between the article pic and the choice of the verb “unleash?” Just askin …

Divide and conquer that is what the Tea Party/Republicans and the Media want to happen and that is what the CBC is openingly giving. As mentioned before the President doesn’t write the bills, that would be part of the CBC’s job. The majority of the black community does not want the CBC to critize the President but instead talk and work with him. That is what is so wrong with our communities as it is, we all too often hate on each other instead of lifting each other up. To my beautiful black and hispanic communities lets show them all by voting this November, 2011 and next November, 2012!

It would have been nice if the CBC stood up for the President when their colleagues called him out of his name and blatantly disrespected him.

What has Waters and CBC offered in terms of a jobs bill? How effective have they been since being in Congress? Why didn’t they unleashed on Bush? You get a strong Black Leader in the highest office and these people only know how to criticize. CBC has been the most ineffective group in Congress and now they want to flex its weak muscles — pathetic. It was President Obama that got the Black Farmers their money after CBC has done nothing to move that issue forward.
CBC is just like Cornel West and Tavis Smiley they are good for the spotlight but ineffective in getting things for Black people. If Maxine Waters and others cannot support by offering advice and providing the facts about how much President Obama has helped and done for all people, I wish they would just shut up and remain silent like they have when White Presidents were leading this country.
