I hear what you are saying, but what is your plan? Do you want to personally write a check to pay to house and feed & keep this violent individual segregated from the world? No? Me either. How about letting him moving in with you at your house? Maybe he can earn his keep by babysitting your kids. No? Hmmmmm. So now what? Most of us would love to eradicate the death penalty but I don’t have a plan to take it’s place. Do you? In the mean time I try to teach my kids to stay out of trouble and that even just being with the wrong people at the wrong time can get you into serious trouble.

Plan? Do you realize how ridiculous what yo just wrote is? We simply end the barbaric and Medieval use of execution as a punishment. Put them away in prison for life. It’s that simple. Yes, it will cost money. Yes it’s inconvenient. So is everything that is attached to an organized society! It means that each and every one of us, to enjoy the blessing of such a society, must part of the responsibility and the cost.

If we agree with the proposition that it is morally reprehensible to take the life of a person, than the State should have no greater moral authority to do so than the people who make up its constituency. Where we hand the State the power to execute, we tacitly approve of murder in all our names. I cannot live with that on my conscience, and I find it deplorable that so many others can.
